I think that Im going try and make the trip from Washington to Michigan for this event. But I have some questions/concerns that I hope you guys can help me out with. So please bare with me.

Will my longer track be a problem, or any aspect of my sled be a problem for the ride(s)? I watch your videos of last years event and you guys really move fast, for long stretches at a time.

I didn't see any lady riders? Should I not bring my wife and her Phazer? She prefers trails, so if there was an off trail ride for me to join, would she have an option to go on another ride?

What generally happens? Friday, Saturday, Sunday rides? Is there indeed an off trail ride sometimes? Do people get together for dinner and/or a few beers?

Im somewhat new to sledding, and new to TY4. Id be bummed out to drive 2000 miles and not make new friends!

I had a few more questions, but I cant remember them as of right now.

It looks like a great time! Ive never seen the Great lakes before, or even been to that part of the country, so I think it would make a cool trip!

Thank you for any thoughts/advise!

Wow that would be sweet if you made the trip! There are usually enough people that that do both on and off trail, so you could hook up with one of those groups for the day. Yes there are lady's there that ride so bring her with. There will be guys there from Wednesday through Monday. Usually ride the day then go out to eat or get something then have some wobbly pops at the hotel tavern so I'm sure you'll meet plenty of people there. Hope this helps and hope to see you there :sled1:

X2 ^^^^^^^. The organized, lol, rides run the gamut. Scenic, long distance ( fast), off trail , etc. Bring your wife. Mine will be there as well as many others. If she's uncomfortable riding with strangers, she won't be after the 1st day. I'll be stayin on trail for the duration, seeing that this is my wife's 1st trip to a TY ride. I generally lead a group Friday and Saturday that hits some local scenery and lunch spots, allowing plenty of time for pictures and a good meal. Hope to see you!!

trust me you will have a good time!

I would love to make this ride but my riding partners time off does not usually line up nicely. so we usually attend the fun ride instead.

viper_dave is an awesome group leader and holds a good trail pace for all riders in his group.

Thanks for the information!

My longer track sled will be fine on your faster paced rides?

What about tabs on my sled? I know Idaho and Oregon honor Washington tabs/licensing if you are visiting, but what about Michigan?

Are there snopark passes for your truck I'd need to buy?

I apologize for all the questions!!!

You will likely need to add scratchers to save your slides. Several guys ride or have ridden long tracks.i currently have 2 144" sleds, and expect to add a Venture to the stable. Pace would Be moderate to accommodate everyone in the group. You'll need Michigan trail passes, available right at the hotel. No snopark passes, we ride right out of the hotel parking lot

My wife come with me and we ride both on and off trail I have a 151 and she has a 144. Its always a blast you and your wife will have a great time.

I ride the trails with a Nytro MTX but have it cut down to 1.75 (Maverick). If the snow gods are good, you'll be fine with scratchers. If it gets icy you may have problems. Bring a pair or two of sliders just in case, easier to have them then need to go looking for them. Some times the snow can set up like concrete over night.

The only other question would be what elevation are you currently riding? May or may not require a clutching change.

I went on my first TY ride last year. It was FUN. Something for everyone. Mr Sled will size up the group and make sure you ride with a group of your ability. No worries. Nobody gets left behind and nobody wishes for more. Friends are made very very easily because we all want to have fun and look out for each other. Its beautiful country and the guided tours let you see many things you would never know existed. Highly recommend.

With regard to your long track, the only issue not mentioned is some of the trails to the east of Munising/Wetmore can be tight and quite twisty.......can be a handful with a really long track BUT the groups normally don't move at a pace so quick you can't keep up. Just expect a little bit of a workout......but then you should be used to that. Depending upon which TY ride the overall group can be quite large. Most people prefer to break into smaller and more manageable riding groups and maybe make plans to meet at a common location during the day.

You asked about about "tabs" or tags.......as long as your own state registration is current all you need is a MI trail pass on each sled......$45 per each for the year (last year......I haven't gotten mine yet this year.....couple back issues). Trail passes are available all over at gas stations, bars, etc.....even at the hotel I believe.

Evenings are usually a large (and sometimes ever so slightly rowdy) event at the in-house bar at the Comfort Inn. Nothing formal, just everybody seems to congregate there.......first time there just wear your Yamaha gear or TY "colors" and you'll end up mixing with a group, no problem.......pretty much all the TY'ers I've ever met are very sociable......and I've met a BUNCH of them..........

While Viper_Dave usually leads a group, most times I'll ride "sweep".......being a local (I live 15-20 min. south of the hotel) I can get anybody "home" from virtually anywhere, within reason, that is......within the riding groups the first and primary concern is safety..........if you would be uncomfortable with the pace of a group, simply slow down......someone will make certain you get back.......plus the trails are generally pretty well marked.

There's never any guarantees on snow depth but we have some people that have been riding locally since it was legal.....end of deer season, Dec 1st.......although our snow got "hurt" by some freezing rain last week it's cold enough the lake effect "machine" should be kicking in any time. Munising/Wetmore (2-3 mi. apart) being right on Lake Superior gets even more snow than we do down at my place. Good luck on your decision and hope to meet you this winter........as long as you don't mind riding with an "Old Fart"........ LaLaLa

HaHaHaHa....sooo true!

Definitely would be great if you could make the trip out Berg... and def bring your wife. Mine came with me last year for her first time and had a great time. Ive been making 2 or 3 Munising TY trips each year since 06....and it always proves to be the funnest trip of the year for me and who ever I bring up. And its not only about the daily rides, its about getting see old friends and meeting new members.
1 tip, dont be afraid to introduce yourself to anyone at the hotel.....99% of the people there, will be from TY. Some may be new to the rides, like yourself, some will be old veterans, like Viper Dave, Sorenson, crewchief , myself, and many others. But being a little assertive will help break the ice and assure you will have a great time.

Anyways, hope you can make it, and dont be afraid to ask as many questions as you want
