I ride with the following.....(all BONE STOCK)
2006 Apex GT
2006 Attak
2007 Attak GT
2007 Attak
I have a BONE STOCK 08 Apex LTX GT and ALL of the above sleds walk away from me whether it's off the line, rolling start or top end. I love the looks of the sled but I'm sorry to say it's a bit of a turd. It's not even close. My 05 RX1 was fastewr than this thing. How is it possible that I have the slowest sled of the pack and it's the newest with the least miles (4000 miles). Any ideas .....did Yamaha change anything in 2008 ???? Anyone else having these issues?

I know I probably shouldn't ask but how many miles does it have on it? Perhaps it isn't quite broke in yet?

It could have Not been broke in properly and you end up with a slow one. One of the rings not really seated properly? It could have overheated while breaking it in, which really hurst it. It does happen... You could add some mods, but I would not bother.. Might take alot of time to figure out. You could try PCIII/Ign/exhaust and drag&flys clutching or Ulmer/Proline kit.

He even had his dealer install a lighted compass and a RipSaw track so I'm wondering if the dealer maybe "detuned" the gearing or clutching to better suit him for touring.
I'm not talking about a slight edge here.....my buds are leaving me in the dust.....even the shorties! Something's not right.

Is the track weighted down with to many studs? Duallies on the skis?

Hey Dan....I've got the RPMs....I punch it and easily hits 11K and it drops down to somewhere between 10,600 and 10,800 once I'm cruising.
As mentioned, its a IceRipper track with SD Precision skis. The belt is probably in need of replacement but would it affect it that much? I'm talkin about a 2006 Attak literally walking away from me at WOT. It's not a little....it's embarassingly slower.
I've already made up my mind. I'm replacing the belt, buying new stock Primary and Secondary Springs, checking belt ride height, clutches and checking the gearing to make sure it's still factory.
Other than that, I'm out of ideas. I did a search and saw Knapp say that his 2008 LTX-GT was the fastest Apex he has owned so I'm alone on this one.

Good idea about making sure everything is back to stock specs. Spinning alot? Check transfer?????
Pretty sure you can send your oil out for analysis for a couple bucks. See if you got gas molecules in it for a poor ring seal condition??????

Make sure you dont have slid issues or possibly a bearing out somewhere...however that would typically result in lower rpms. I think you are on the right track with your thoughts. What kinds of speeds are you seeing on the dreameter?

Being the 2nd owner of that sled I can shed a little light about the previous owner. Elderly gentleman who I bet was overly conservative with break in. I can tell you that by the seat of the pants feeling the 07 Attak GT I just bought will blow the doors off yours. The previous owner of this one broke it in like motoman recommends. All his buddies ride cats and he claimed this Attak could take em all. I beleive it too.

Yeah, what kind of speeds are you seeing on the dream O meter? I saw 131 Sunday down a snow covered road before I had to shut down. This was in about a 1/2 mile too

Something has to be wrong because mine is performing awesome. It has all the horses I want.

The highest I've seen on a hardpack on the dreammeter is 108.
I can't see the breakin making this much of a difference. I'll continue to check the clutches and springs. It's gotta be something in the driveline. Clutches or chaincase side....not sure yet.
