My jackshaft bearing is rusty and dried out - Why?

Keep in mind, using a grease injector needle you are actually going THROUGH the seal, therefore, making a hole in the seal. I would think that popping the seal off so you can thoroughly clean out the old grease and possible rust build up, not to mention being able to visually inspect the bearing, is a better idea. Especially as easy as it is to pop off the bearing seals on both sides. Just my $.02.

WHAT???

No holes here. On the jackshaft bearing, the outer seal has a flexible lip against the inner race. No need to puncture anything. Just slip it in under the lip & watch the old cruddy grease/water be pushed out by the new grease.

It's really easy to do while bearing stays on shaft. Done it for many years without issue. To each their own I guess.
