My Non-Warrantied NE turbos kit

Well, I found out why I am having jetting trouble. My exhaust manifold is cracked in a big way. I was stupid and bought this kit used from a TY user and in talking to him I was lead to believe the kit was a NE Turbos kit and had an updated manifold. I had talked to Greg at NE turbos a few times before I bought the kit and it sounded like it had an updated manifold. Apparently it doesn't. Of course I can't get a call back from that user now. I called Greg at NE Turbos again to find out what I can do.....I have had the sled out 3 times (for about 20 miles) and the manifold is cracked all the way through the #4 outlet.

Unfortunately Greg told me that this isn't actually his kit. It was a pre-production kit that wasn't sold retail but was actually sold with his sled. Sounds like the guy that bought the sled blew up the motor and then took the turbo off and sold it to the guy I bought it from. The guy I bought it from told me that the manifold had cracked before and that NE Turbos sent him a new one but when I talked to Greg about it he said he won't do anything on this one since it wasn't a retail kit bought from him in kit form. So, his only option so far is to sell me the new SS header for $925....no room for negotiation. I was told that $925 is his cost to build them.

Now, I also called Jeff at CPR just to see if his header would fit. Jeff offered to discount his header for me just to help out and was willing to sell me one for $700!!! This problem had nothing to do with CPR and yet he was willing to give me a break. In the future, I would highly recommend doing business with CPR. Wish I could return this kit and just buy a new one from CPR where I could get great service.

I did pay for the turbo on paypal....maybe I should box the whole thing up and send it back and have my credit card company cancel the credit. What do you think?
 
Well, this is really not NE Turbos problem....you should have called them before you bought the kit to see if they would send you a manifold!! But hind sight is 20-20!!

I did call him before I bought the kit and it sounded like it had the updated manifold. Supposedly there was nothing wrong with the manifold until I got it and ran it and it opened up on me. But thanks for you $.02 anyway.

Thanks but I just decided to order a header from Jeff at CPR. He is a stand up guy and I just don't want to be pulling this thing apart at regular intervals.

Man that really sucks . NE turbos should be ashamed for not helping out a guy that has one of there kits. Man good luck once you get the new header.

trxster , I dont know why you are bad mouthing NE turbo's , he did not sell you the kit ! NE Turbo new SS header is also ceramic coated and is very well built and probably costs more to manufacture . anyway its not right to go ripping on people on here . have a nice day .

If you would pull your head out of the sand and read what I posted you would see that I did not bad mouth him. I also didn't bad mouth the guy that sold it to me. I simply am stating what has happened. If you don't like it you can fly a kite!! Never did like you French Canadians anyway. :moon:

Again, my appreciation to Jeff at CPR for helping me out and sending the header via 3 day so I can get back out. We just got 20" inches of new snow and I wanna ride.

ProstockBenji man just take a chille pill he didnt diss NE turbos at all he just said hes not happy with the service and what happened. i gree with Trxster read the post next time.

Well I guess it's my turn

First off, when This gentleman first called me, he had told me that this kit was sold to him as a NE Turbo KIT.and I told him that if it was, that all my kits where updated with new headers, but when he called me with a problem with the header, and eplained what he had for a header, and low and behold, it looks like he bought a kit that was off my 2003 rx1 test sled witch has been through at least 3 maybe 4 sets of hands and on three sleds that I know of I'm sorry for your problems but if you stated the facts up frount, I would have known what kit it was. buy the way that sled that was sold, I had 15000 R@d in it and sold it for9500 as is as is the warranty is for one season to the oridginal customer SORRY Greg www.northeastturbos.com
 
I feel your pain TRXster but I would have to agree with N/E Turbo on this one. Most warranties of this nature do not extend beyond the original purchaser. His price for the header sounds a litle spendy but he has the right to sell it for what ever he wants. If you were looking for a turbo kit with some sort of warranty then you should have bought a new one. If you bought the used kit at a fair price then you should be able to foot the bill for the new header. Everything else in the kit should last a long time and give as new performance. If the cost of the new header and the price you paid for the kit is still below the cost of a new system then I would say you came out okay and I wouldn't hold any grudges against anyone (except maybe the guy you bought it from).
 
Just looking for info, wonder how did you come up cracked header as your jetting issue. I have my cpr header crack, didn't seem to cause a jetting problem, buddy with mcx, same thing. Just asking, not looking for a fight. Too bad 20 miles and its cracked, I know its a pain in the #*$&@ to take back out. But they all crack, was told that powderlite makes the NE header now. Also heard that CPR will warranty his header, ;)! . Went with billet T's and carb covers, I think they solved most of my carb issues. But putting down Canadains is not cool, and Kingsville Ontario is no where near Quebec, its just about in Detroit Michigan.
 
trxster , maybe you should know who your talking to before you open your pie hole and insert your foot into it , First off I'm not french I'm Italian , besides that it appears you have something against Canadians which proves how much of a goofball you are !

Second, with the heading :

Summitking , If I wanted your opinon I would have asked for it . I didnt see in my statement where I was freaking out , so maybe you should chill out !

Hey Benji, the canadian comment was a joke.....as I am a Canadian Citizen. Now I can add Italian Canadians to the list. Sorry you are so sensitive but it was a joke.


Secondly, I suppose my subject heading was misleading but I wasn't expecting a warranty, I was expecting some kind of customer service on the header issue though. Understand that I WAS LEAD TO BELIEVE FROM THE SELLER THAT THIS WAS A NE TURBOS KIT.....Not a 3rd ro 4th hand kit. When I called NE Turbos prior to buying the kit I even told him who was selling it to me and he thought he recognized the guys name so I assumed it was. However, Gred did say that if it was his kit is should have the updated manifold so I left it at that and assumed it did. If he would have offered some kind of deal I would have been happy but I found the customer service I wanted through a different company-CPR and that really impressed me so I recommended doing business with them.

" It is not that it is cracked.....it is that it is the old style manifold that apparently doesn't flow well at all. So, if your friend has the old one then his jetting will be different than every one else's.



I'm a little frustrated and wanted to vent a bit. For all of you that don't like this post.....tough $hit. If you are looking to buy a used kit you should get the serial number and run it through vehix or something. Now I guess we should just let this post die.
