Laingsburg, Mi,
while riding on a groomed trail everybody behind me says they can smell RUBBER burning
lots of snow but hard packed by the groomer, i was the third sled on the trail that day, my wife stoped me three times in the first ten miles
i tried to get off the trail as much as possible, but thats not much fun when the trail is wide and straight(50+mph)
after the trail got tore up i had no problems but the startof the day is always a problem
should i cut out the extra windows and add more track clips or what
also i run the track fairly loose with no studs
any help?

you can drill out the closed areas with a hole saw, 1 1/8 inch works well with no adverse effects.i have ran tracks thousands of miles like this. if you want the clips installed you will have to square off the holes. best thing is ice scratchers that mount under the running boards.

slp anti-wear pads, 135mm wheels, let the hyfax burn down, they will stop at a certain point, i have 4,000 on my hyfax and they haven't worn anymore

SLP wear pads and ice scratchers, 3 years and 4000 miles with same hyfax. Prior to this, had to have hyfax replaced at 500 mile check up.

Scratchers will certainly help. You can also just jump into the loose snow every once in a while to get snow onto your track. Loosening your track will certainly help with the friction too.

One option not mentioned is larger inner idler wheels. I run the Poo rear inner idler wheels that are slightly larger than stock and they seem to help with hyfax wear.

I have never met anyone who put on a set of the marginal snow wheels, who ended up with a set. LOL I tried them used red loctite, and lost them both in 2000 miles. Maxdlx

Completely normal at the start of the day on a COLD morning on HARD PACK snow conditions to have HYFAX melt cuz of lack of snow DUST...thats when you need SCRATCHERS, you can run on ICE with them no problem...

Here's a good thread to read...

I wouldn't say normal, normal for a Yamaha 4 stroke maybe, but the other brands don't have this problem. I had an 03 Polaris that I never saw the temp light come on or slides burn, and I drove about 10 miles one night on a plowed road, was watching for the temp light but it never came on. Yamaha has a serious issue here and needs to fix it!

The Yamaha 2 strokes don't have this issue.

-2 "FIX powersports"small wheel kits(INSIDE RAILS)

-135mm idlers with 2 bolts mounts

never wear a slider at all....check this post: http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=78847

on this type of setup, why not a solid bar all the way across with one lonf bolt?
this would help tiethe two rails together.
maybe less chance to crack rails/less stress.

He's missing his TRANSFER rod in that pic he probably removed it to pull his skid out, you cant use a CROSS shaft cuz of the transfer rod being in the way on a 121" but you can on a 136".
