My transfer rod broke today on my 06 Apex ER and I was wondering if I remove it can I still ride the sled tomorrow so I don't miss a day of riding and my other question is does anyone make an after market rod? I know bender used to make them for the SRX. Has anyone else had this problem. I know things break but there are only so many riding days in the winter and I hate missing any of them.

Thank you

I broke mine 2 years ago. If you do a search, I think I posted pics. Someone mentioned that you could ride but I didn't want to take a chance. I almost ruined my track as well, how did yours make out?

My track is OK, I caught it really quickly and wasn't very far from the truck. I was just doing a search and I didn't see any pictures. I was reading a post from someone that posted the same thing. Some say you can ride it and other say you can't. I am not sure what I am going to do yet. Looks like it is going to be an expensive repair though.

You can ride without it. I know a guy that hasn't had one for 2000 miles.

Mike,

If I was going to just drag race for the day would I want to temporarily remove my transfer rod? Is there any down side to running without it just for a drag racing application?

I broke mine two weeks ago..

Ive been riding with out it.. ITs a ton more fun without it.. you just have to keep off the gas going threw the corners..

It still handles pretty good.. Im sure the 13mm bar has something to do with that..

just broke mine today, and i was wondering the same thing,my sled is an 09 vector ltx with only 800 miles, wasnt to happy when i noticed it,funny thing is it happened loading it on my trailer it spun on the ramp and i heard a noise,it damaged the track a bit, this better be covered,my transfer was set at 3/4 transfer,i hope i can ride tomorrow without damaging anything else

Might be easier just going to max transfer. Only downside is it will take away ET if you are hooked up for drag racing with max traction. Only a pro drag racer would fall into this category.

For the most part, transfer is good for the average guy that can't hook too hard. It allows better traction.

How are all these transfer rods getting broke anyway? Do any of you have pics? Are the rods breaking or are the threads being ripped out? Also wonder if the locknut is tight and staying tight, or if its loosening up. Seems to be a rash of failures lately.

You may have seen my post from a few days ago. I broke mine, its complety destroyed, i had it set on max transfer. What i think happens is they loosen off by themselves then just come completly apart, so i think next time i'm going to put locktight on it. I damaged my track a little bit, not to bad though. I've done about 150 miles on my sled with the transfer rod complety out, just because i didn't want to miss a few days of riding. With it out from what i have read you won't do any damage, i havent noticed any problems yet, i can't see how it could cause any damage really. You will just notice you will have some pretty crazy transfer, everytime your on the flipper hard the skis come up, its fun though. Just a test i was doing 85MPH on hardpack and i could lift my skiis off the ground 6 inches no problem when standing on the back, i'm only 180 pounds. But you can still ride the sled no problem.

Sounds like fun! I might just take mine out for a day of wheelie riding!

this is what mine looks like from this afternoon,i wasnt at max transfer, about 1/4 inch on the transfer gauge before max transfer,im guessing the lock nut must loosen by itself cuz if you look at the threads in the pic, only the last 3 threads are damaged

Sounds like they may be backing off and pulling the threads out then. Kind of hard to see into the rod cylinder in the pic 1654. I tighten mine with a chisel and hammer so it stays tight.

the first 3 threads in the sleeve are flattened, this better be covered on warranty, track and transfer rod,im going riding tomorrow but i'll take it easy, dont want to screw it up more, when i get the new rod i'll thighten it good and i wont mess with it anymore,

Mine looks just like PAT THE RATs..

THe thing loosens up and comes apart then gets jamed and bends..

I was told by a dealer this was an issue on 2006 models.. Im not sure why..

Mike, what do you think for some that is in snow drags and not ice where you would get major hook/traction... It might be more benficial in snow drags?

Thanks..
