Thanks Travis. I'm not the one with the broken steering arm but I see the post you are referencing.

What purpose does this serve? Is it replacing a cotter pin or something? I didn't see it on the microfiche so just trying to understand exactly where it goes and what its purpose is.

Sorry was thinking that was your post for some reason.

It is a safety retainer. The bolt has groove machined in it for the clip. Since there is no nut, the clip prevents the bolt from falling out in the event that it loosens up.
