Alright guys so it looks like my sledding season is over! I lent my sled out to a friend and he ended up crashing it and writing it off so I'm in the market for a new sled. My previous sled was a 2008 phazer with a number of upgrades. I really enjoyed the sled but I want something with more power as I've moved to an area with a lot more open riding areas and powder snow. I am going to hold out and see what the big 4 bring out in the next month for 2012 but if there aren't many changes I'm looking at going with one of the following: Nytro xtx, Switchback assault 800 or an 800 etech renegade. I really like the 4 stroker but after owning a couple of them I'm thinking of trying one of the new 2 strokes to see how much they have changed and I don't really want anything heavier then what my phazer was. I know the nytro is heavier but it's the only sled yamaha builds that would really fit what I'm looking for.

I do about 60/40 trail/boondocking and enjoy getting off into the deep snow and hitting jumps as often as I can. I know a lot of you guys ride with people who ride other brands and I was hoping you might have some good feed back for me as I've only ever owned yamaha's. Sorry for the long post but I'm really looking for some constructive insight on these new sleds.

Thanks

I'm sure you can guess what i will suggest, i ride a phazer when my nytro is down its fun as hell but there's no other motor like the nytro 3 banger, just love it. You clearly already know the issues with it i would assume.

Set on every sled you are thingin about getting and go on a test ride what one guy will like you may not ....... good luck ;)!

I'm trying to set up a test ride on these sleds but the dealers around here are either all sold out of everything or don't have a demo to ride. It's kind of frustrating because I've done a ton of research but it doesn't really do me any good if I can't ride the sleds.

If you don't want to worry about engine problems Go Yamaha. Polaris has not been able to make an engine bigger then 600 for years. E-tecs still need a couple tweaks before the can be reliable.

:nos

What tweaks does etec need. ?? They seem great to me and most ppl on dootalk. I rode the nytro xtx , rtx and the doo 1200 4tec and 600/800 etec. No experience with poo because they don't interest me.

Short n sweet
1200 4tec - smooth fast and handles awesome
600 etec - quick nimble , great fuel and oil use
800 etec - rocketship, great mpg, great chassis and suspension
Nytro xtx - fun to ride, reliable, good on straights , clunky reverse
Nytro rtx - tie with the 800 etec for fun, but not as fast, stiff setup and not IMO a great trail sled. That nod goes to the xtx

For all out performance I would say the 800 etec. That sleds power is addicting and is extremely light. Also handles awesome on the trail.

While the nytro is a bit heavier it's still a blast to ride and can lift the skis off the ground with ease ( rtx ) more of a abuse sled I think. The wY it's set up is Pretty aggressive.

There are alot of etecs at my local dealer for engine warranty work

800s I'm assuming? We have yet to see. 2010 or 2011 at our dealer. The 600s seem to be the more reliable. But the 800s are pretty new. With the warranty I'm sure 4 yrs Is enough time to fix any issues.

Thanks for the good info so far guys! Keep it coming. After looking at all the brochures and information out on these sleds I'm still not sure what I want!

Im with you man.. Ive been going at this for month now... I look at the brochures daily ( like somethings gonna magically change in them ) .. Im stuck on the nytro, but after riding the Etec 800 and 1200 XR , that didnt make the decision any easier .. RIDE whatever you can .. there are Demo shows all the time.. I rode all the new Yamahas when Yamahas trailer pulled up with 15 new sleds or so... I liked the nytro over the others.. But if I rode nothing but trail, Id go Apex ( for yamaha ) the doo 800 is addicting and light as can be.. Pretty much a wheelie machine..

Check here to see if anything is coming to your town, or near you... Each ride is like 15-20 miles, so you get a good feel of the sled opposed to a trip around a parking lot ..

I looked into those power tours that yamaha puts on but here in Canada there isn't anything coming close to me at all this year. I guess they just had one a couple of weeks ago but I just moved back to the area last week so I wouldn't of been able to go anyway! Still undecided!?!

I have a friends etec 800 that went BOOM in the back of my trailer right now.

(Went BOOM while doing 55mph down a RR grade.)

2009 mx package 3200 miles.

Wanna buy it?
He will sell it cheap.
