Anyone have or know how I can get a charge tube for a Bender Stage II turbo?

J.

The one under the hood. I am looking to replace my titanium tube with a steel one.

Are you by chance having trouble dialing in the titanium one?

Yes. Very much so. I have tried a multitude of things and am still having issues. Seems to run great at times and for no reason starts running like poopy. I am reaching now and think the titanium charge tube could be an issue. I remember reading somewhere someone had jetting quite high with their titanium charge tube, then had to get a steel one, had to jet way down and it ran better. Also all the research I have done show the bender turbo's running 127.5 MJ's for my altitude.

I am currently at 137.5's and can't quite get it to run in the mountains. It always seems to come alive on the way back down the hill but not so good on the hill. My A/F guage was showing mid stoich at WOT today but I would get some burbles at WOT when trying to climb. Couldn't get any track speed or much boost. I changed the pitot from 200 to 350 and it showed leaner on the A/F gauge as predicted but still had the burbles. I then put it a pluged pitot w/not much of a change until I started coming down the hill. Then it ran great.

I am also thinking about re-routing my intake filter so it sticks out the back of the R. side exhasut. I noticed a hole under the turbo in the tunnel that might be letting some steam in from the hot side of the turbo into the intake side. This might be causing the issue in the deep snow and could possibly explain why I am having more issues in the deep snow. It would also explain why it seems to run better on the way back to the truck.

Last week I had 135 MJ's with a 200 pitot and it was running real lean from 5000 rpm's to 9000 or so. That is why I jetted up and put the clips in #4.

Anyway, I know you didn't ask for all this but there it is.

Anyway

Anyway

I ask because I have a customer in Alberta with similar issues. He originally called me looking for some help dialing in his Bender kit. It ran fine last year, but since the installation of the titanium tube he's having a lot of trouble making it run right. I told him to go back to a last known good state of tune (basically swap out the tube) and his performance is back. He has an a/f gauge on order with me so we're not going to be able to finish the set-up until he gets it installed. I've read about others on the forum having problems with the Ti charge tube as well. I'm pretty sure the stainless is .065" wall - can you measure the ti one for me? Better yet, can you measure the diameter of the Ti tube and get someone else with the stainless to do the same?

There's something fundamentally different between the two tubes. I'm guessing the wall thickness of the Ti tube might be thinner, which would increase the cross section area of the tube and result in a slower airspeed over the pitot. This would be at best a subtle difference and I wouldn't think it enought to cause a problem, and yet here we are...

Unfortunately I don't have a set of calipers that I can measure the thickness with. If I ever get a set I will measure it for you.

Yes, I agree, there is something different about the tubes. Don't know what or why, but all I have read points to the charge tube. Seems altitude or atmospheric changes cause issues with the titanium. Very interesting or should I say wierd.

So do you have an extra one lying aroung? Or do you know where I can get one.

J.

I don't, but I can make some calls and try to find you one. Probably won't have an answer for you until Monday.

That would be great Jim. I would appreciate it.

Let me know what you find. Or if you want me to do the calling I can.

Thanks,

J.

Price will probably be better if I call...

Twisted, Thanks for the offer. I think I am going to pass for now and wait to see what happens this week. I will be gone for the next couple days and after that will not have an opportunity to ride again for a while. By then I might have a charge tube ready for purchase. If I can't find a charge tube by the end of this week then I might take you up on your offer.

Thanks again,

J.

Full Power Performance in NY took over the Bender Turbo Systems when they folded, they support and carry parts for those designs.
