I now have an 03 mxz x 800 REV. I am definately getting a Yamaha (long story and not into brand bashing).
The MXZ X is the (ski-doo) stiffest suspension with the piggy back and center clicker adjustment shocks etc...., its great for straight aways and awesome in ditch banging trails. Therein lies my dilemma.
I am considering a 05 RX-1, or one of the new Apex.
I am not a small guy (225 lbs) so the weight factor is irrelevant.
Whats important to me is that I have a comfortable suspension so that I can bang when the trail gets rough and have good control in the straight at 100 mph.+.
I adjusted my suspension on my sled ONCE to my liking and never touched it again. That was 5000 miles ago, thats where I get confused on whether or not I NEED the e/c rear shock .....etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

Apex RTX. The benefit of the GT over the RTX is the adjustability, but what you say doesn't suggest that adjustability is an important factor. I think the downside for you of the GT is that it seems to be more of a cruising sled, whereas the RTX is a ditch banger. I doubt that the GT shocks would work out particularly well for your style of riding.

If you liked your stiffer suspension of your X package the APEX RTX would be more suited to your style. The engineers are saying that it will be valved a little stiffer with tighter springs. You will find that you will adjust your monoshock via the remote clicker more than you might think. There is a significant difference between the stiffest setting on the remote clicker and the softest setting. If the trails are beat up and you want to bang it literally takes 5 seconds go to the stiffest setting. Or if the trails are groomed and you want to just cruise, click to soft. I weigh the same as you so you will probably want to set your spring adjustment on the highest setting to start out with if the spring rates on the 06 are the same as the 05. Since you are coming off a REV I would definitely go with the 06 since they are more rider forward. If you have any more questions on how the mono rides, pm me.

I'm showing my ignorance when it comes to shocks but I figured the Piggy back shocks on the GT would be for the more agressive being that they hold more fluid.

Dan i agree... I too think the GT would be more suited to him as he is a heavy rider..
You know that OHLINS rear spring is going to be calibrated stiff..

I'm a little confused too ,looking at the catolog today at thwe dealers the GT is in the top of the trail class while RTX is the top ditch banger . There just might be something to the stiffer valving and springs.

My only reservation with the RTX is the fox floats.....some have said they may need be tuned with the hand pump for elavation and temp swings. I do not want to pump up my shocks while on a weekend ride. Maybe something to confirm for a guy not wanting to do much adjusting.
I do like the weight savings they offer and yamaha is putting them on there for a reason so they very well may be the big bump ticket.

I am also concerned about the Fox Floats and am patiently waiting the ride summary from MrSled.

Dont pay any attention to the group the sleds are put in... It doesnt mean anything...
The GT has the best shock package of all the sleds...
Fox floats might be light and nice.... UNTILL THEY BLOW OUT or leak air all the time and have to be pumped up all the time..
