Need Help For Rangeley, ME Ride!

Trail map

Here is a link to the trail map of the area. Rangelely is at junction FN-11. This is JUST the ITS map, which shows just the main ITS trails.

Here is a BETTER map I just came across. "Black Fly Loop" would be the large green loop trail that runs from Rangeley up to Stratton over to Carrabassett, down to Salem, than back over to Rangely....about 228 miles total.

But from the looks of it, there are many different loops and directions to head out on.

At times the black fly loop can be very disapointing. About 1/4 of this trail will be rough as you head south, the trail will get better as you aproach Kingfield and even better as you reach Carrabassett.Who knows, it may be a good year!

Its nice riding out there.... lots of scenic spots with awesome views right on the trails. Just dont go south from there... trails turn to crap quickly. Anything north towards the Forks and Jackman (Stop in at the Northland bar and hotel... for an adult beverage and experience some local culture) is usually good. Ride up to Pittston Farm for sure, good food.
If you all have your passports and you are up for 7 days, i would suggest jumping over to Canada for a day... nice riding over the border.
I haven't been into Area 51 yet... but plan to this year. Its a boondocking/hill climbing spot ... I hear its excellent for playing around. If you see someone on a mountain sled, more than likely that's where they are headed.

No Prob....enjoy Maine... lots of good riding to be had!!

X2. its not the "main" loop and doesnt get as much grooming attention. miles of moguls are not uncommon.

We are within 48 hours of riding. I was told yesterday that there are trails in the Carrabassett (SP) area that go up to the top of a mountain and have great views. Does anyone know the name and location of the trails? I love to climb and see the sites. Thanks, Dana.

Coburn mtn (towards jackman near bulldog camps) or kennebago mtn (closer to rangeley, very easy "climb") coburn top section is goat path but tower on top can see 100mi on a clear day. Was up there this past weekend. Pretty thin at lower elevations. Not sure u can easily make it from rangeley tojackman with this weeks weather?

Might want to post your Maine question here. Seems to be alot of info regarding trails, destinations, and weather conditions.

Is that Nytro gonna be ready to climb some mountains or what? We'll hopefully be checking out East Kennebago Mtn, West Kennegago Mtn, Bald Mtn, ...and hopefully we will be able to make it as far north as Coburn Mtn. Not sure how long of a haul that is by sled though.

Not sure of the Mtn over by Carabassett though. I will look into it.
