I am installing a Xtra 10 suspension from a 97 xc into a 91 indy 500..

I moved the rear brackets forward 1 1/4 inches as i was told to do so by someone who had done a similar project..but had to install the rear of the suspension into the LOWER bolt holes and the suspension was so tight that even with rear boggy wheels all the way loose it is still like a rubber band... TIGHT!

So i moved the front bolt holes up one inch and its better but now the two circular shaped loops on the top of the suspension are touching the track..

I measured the bolts holes on a 98 and its very close to what i now have but it just isnt right... I sucked up the limiter straps trying to get the track loser and that helped some but the gets tighter as you sit on it..

I found a artical about doing this same project but its for a sled with a rolled chain case and i dont know what difference that would make...

Anyone have any info for me.... It would be greatly appreicated!! Thanks.. :o|

That sounds a lot like a main arm mount point problem. I would have to guess that the main arm is mounted too far back. The main arm should be exactly parallel to the front of the track where it leaves the rail and runs up to the drivers. I'm not sure what effect the back mounts may also have on this, please post some digital pictures of the skid in the sled.

Sorry it took so long to post pics... IVE BEEN REALLY BUSY!! As you can see i moved the front mounting holes up ONE inch and the rear bolt holes i moved Forward 1.5 inches.. But i had to install the bolts into the Holes below the foot boards because the further up i tried to install the bolts the Tighter the track gets.. ITS ALREADY LIKE A TIGHT RUBBER BAND..

AS always thanks for the help LB!! :-o

The red dots are where the skid needs to be mounted. Use your judgement to determine exactly how far it should be moved so that the tighteners will ultimately be in a reasonable place. A good guess would be to move it forward by 1/2 the exposed length of the tightener bolts.

How did you manage to get that skid on there with the track already tight?

Oh, one thing about the installation. Make absolutely sure that the distance between the two red dots is exactly the same as on the sled it came off of. If you don't have anything to use as a reference, then when mounting it, make sure that it bottoms on the rubber bumpers before it bottoms the shock, otherwise you will kill your shock. Might be good to leave the rear where it is and only move the front - looks like there's enough space on the springs, and it is way better to have it too far back than too far forward.

IF you look at the back half of the suspension it looks like it is in mid travel ( in weight transfer)

I think you are right... THe front red dot looks perfect.. The back one might be right also..

I know for sure the front bolt must come down becuase the upper part of the suspension is hitting the track.. WHERE IT SHOULDNT!!

Thanks..
