If you've seen my previous posts looking for general info, you know that I'm supposed to be picking up a 11 standard Apex on Tuesday. I was after an XTX but they only had standards left and the deal was too good to pass up. My local dealer has two 2011 XTX's but didn't want to budge on price. Well, when I told them I had a deposit at another dealer for a different machine, they budged! They are offering me one of their XTX's for 11050 plus tax. That's only $400 more than what I was paying for the standard Apex and is the same difference as the retail difference. Plus, no travel to get it. I can call tomorrow morning and cancel my deal out of state and go local with the XTX. Am I making the right decision or should I stay with the standard Apex? My wife, riding buddies, and I only ride mid week and generally get fresh grooming. Never off trail other than in the field behind my house. Also, my wife and I will be switching back and fourth between the GSX and the Apex to keep it interesting. I see the XTX is only 9# heavier than the standard Apex, so I imagine if she can handle the 128 she can handle the 144? Any advice you can give would be great as I have to have this decision made today so I can call the two dealers tomorrow with my decision.

go for the longer track...unless your rippen it in the corrners ..you will not notice the longer track..but off trail and in lots of packed powder and in the bumps..you will notice the longer track..
does it have power steering..thats a plus too.

They would both have PS so that's a wash. Not off trail, but if we hit a rough one, I'm thinking advantage long track. However, it seems to be on paper only in my experience. My GSX SE has a 137 and my brother's GSX LE has only a 121 and I can't really feel a difference, even on the rough trails. I thought for sure there would be a huge difference, but not the case. That's what has me second guessing the advantages...

for sure you will spin less and also will notice the lenth in the bumpy trails..and the hookup..tracks seem to make a difference once you past the 136..under 144 they spin more and over they spin less..if you try not to spin them..rode a 144 for 2 years..drove my wifes manny times..and ride mine on trails a bit too much..lol..like 144 for trails..said this when I had a summit 144 the first year they came out I think I bought it in 2000.....but I can say that other than it wont really slide in cornners...my sled can rip on the trails too.yes its harder than short track to turn cornners.but are you raceing or ridding..for just booting and ridding the longer one is better..150hps is alot of power for a short track..

i have long track, in your case either would do the job, you could also just wait until they come out monday, you could be sorry you didn't
wait, your sled that you choose could worth a lot less, next year 9500-10,000.

Thanks guys. As for Mondays new stuff, it won't be 3500 off MSRP. There's always something new out there. You save a lot of money getting last years new thing!

Another thing to consider is your relationship with the local dealer. If he is a really good and you like him and you think the deals are comparable I would always buy close to home, sometimes it is incentive to make them go the extra mile for you...

I cant comment on the newer 144's,because mine was the 06 attak 136,it did nothing for me,unless you call pushing thru the corners at high speed something lol,and it rode way worse than the 06 apex rtx my boy had and still has,and it was 30 lbs more,i dont know how they can only list it 9lbs heavier, when it is 16" more track, but anyways no one ever lies about weight,do they!! From what i understand the newer tipped up rails work real good, yes it should bridge bumps better, but does it really,i just plain like to rip it thru the corners, and thru the junk, and i have never seen an attak keep up to me in that situation, off trail,ya must be much better,144 to 128 who knows,i dont run off trail much. Good luck with your choice,bot5h sleds sound good.taken said:Thanks guys. As for Mondays new stuff, it won't be 3500 off MSRP. There's always something new out there. One thing I like better about the 128 is the remote dial for the shock adjustment. The 144 has a dampening adjustment, but it's at the shock rather than on the outside of the tunnel by your footwell. Don't know why they skipped the remote dial on the 144 as I really like that I could reach down and turn it without getting off the sled. Our GSX is air controlled so I can do it from the handlebar controls. Really sweet setup. Every other sled I've ever had is set it and forget it and I've always been fine so I guess I would be with the Yami too. I hear you on the local dealer. I like to support my local dealers and this one is sure giving me a fair deal. I would have them service either machine, but I'm guessing they take better care of you when you bought the unit there. I'm leaning towards the 144... Keep the thoughts coming guys. I really appreciate it. Either way, I'll be sitting on a new one Tuesday. Heading to ME Wednesday for 4 days to break her in!

X2. XTX no question.
Xtx for sure. Fun factor or blipping the throttle over a bump, and it goes instead of spinning. I got 136 and a 144. 144 is just better....at least with ps it is great. Only thing missing on xtx is a great shock package, it is good but not great. Then again I am not a fan of the air shocks on se package either. When talking over 150 hp in the front end weight of the four stroke, the 144 is just balanced better than a 121 or 128....... No question!

Of course, if I buy local I have to pay sales tax and that takes it from a $400 difference to a $1100 difference.
I have had two long tracks and I wouldn't go back to a short track! Wouldn't even think twice about it! Go long! Haven't met anyone yet that I can't keep up with either through the twisty's or the long straights!
