I installed an ECP and clutch kit from Matt in a fellow members 05 RX1 last night. He rode it today and said the belt was squelling. When I installed the clutch kit it was different than the one I got last year, it had a simons CPR hellix. The stock secondary spring was wrapped at 3 & 3 for 60 degrees , but hand written on the HH box from Matt was secondary 0 and 3 so I assumed he was indicating wrap the secondary at 0 and 3 30 degrees. That didn't seem right to me, but this hellix was different than any other hellix I have seen. So I wrapped it at 30. Also the owner of the sled had replaced the primary spring with an orange silver orange spring. I feel I probably should have went back to the stock spring since the supertuner kit from Matt was set up for the stock spring. ECP kit went in with out a problem, but the clutching is off. The owner said when punched the rpms went to about 9500 and climbed to 10200. I thought when properly clutched it should start at 10000 and climb to 10400? Just a litttle more info. The sled had 1800 miles on it and the clutches needed cleaned so I cleaned the clutches and the belt was the original with 1800 miles. Also the owner said it appears to be riding alittle low in the secondary. We will try a new belt first. Any ideas???

Never heard of any sled running 30 degree wrap. Set it at 60.

Ya that's what I thought, but I also know there are alot of people that know more than me, so I thought maybe it was different!!! thanks.

I just got a kit from matt also. Same 3-0 on the box. My kit had a new secondary spring from matt though. Not the stock like you refered to. I'll see what happens.

The amount of wrap can change with different helixs and springs.
Not all the springs have the tabs at the same places
A shallow helix (strait 40) will have much less twist at 3-3 than a strait 53 at 3-3. Matt is not one to make the same mistake twice.

rx1007,
The kit did include a new secondary spring I was referring to the primary spring. HUMMMM MATT where are you what's the "0 & 3 secondary" mean that's hand written on the box? I will be putting the stock primary spring in, wrapping at 3 & 3, and a new belt.

Ok I went over this morning and put the stock primary spring on, a new belt and wrapped the secondary spring to 60 degrees 3 and 3. Then we put it on the lift and ran it. The secondary is not closing completely when it comes to a stop. If I gradually let off the gas and bring it to a stop it will close most of the time. Also when taking the belt on or off using the trick of setting the brake and then grabbing the secondary back sheeve and twisting toward the rear of the sled, doesn't work!!! The secondary just wont open. If I grab the belt and pull up it will open the secondary, but it's just to hard to twist open (I do lift weights) LOL!!!! The track was to tight and I readjusted, but still the same results. Any ideas why the secondary isn't closing all the way?

You need to run that new spring at 0-3 (30 degrees) it is a brand new spring that is included in all new supertune kits. The reason your belt wont go down in the secondary is because its to tight. 60 degrees is way to tight with that spring. 30 degrees with this new spring is about the same as 90 degrees with a Yamaha silver. Also, you need to run that stock primary spring. Please call with any questions. 715-340-0554

still tweaking
Boy, that Rob is the man when it comes to needing help. He has bent over backwards for me trying to get this thing set up. Anyway, today we set it hopefully as what's recommended. The stock primary is back in and the new helix and spring is set at the 0-3 setting. I put the new belt on yesterday (now has 53 miles on it.) One thing we still noticed is that the secondary still does not close/sit together completely right. It just seems to "stick" a little. I have not ran it yet, though under load. Unfortunately, the weather is not cooperating. Looks like I may not get to try it for awhile. I'll report back though when I do. BTW, with the 60 degree setting that thing is a rocket out of the hole and mid range is great. Too bad the thing will not tach over 9800 rpm. I was at one point doing 108 on the dream meter at 9800, though. I can only imagine what it'd being doing at 10,200. Thanks again Rob.

update and rpm?
I did get to try the sled again set up correctly according to the 0-3 clutch setting. With the new belt now, there is no more squealing/squawking. I now have a backfiring problem, though when letting off abruptly after squeezing it. I have put up another post on this problem (see other thread on backfiring.) I have another question, however, in regards to RPM. These last couple rides with the right set up has only shown top end tach readings around 10k. It shoots up to 96-9800 right out of the hole, but doesn't creep up much more and seems to stay right around 10k. I thought the power band should be at least 10,200-10,400 rpm? Thoughts?
