First off, nothing needs to be fixed How much do you want to spend?
#1 Heavy Hitter clutching
#2 ECP's K&N Filter kit
#3 Stretch it to 136 with a ripsaw 1.25 track
#4 Bender exaust (or similar)
#5 Boss seat
#6 Longer sway Bar links w/heavier sway bar

I say ride it stock. Depending on your riding style you may like it the way it is. If not, you can always add on later.

I do want a different track and want a 136" skid and change the skis for off trail. I mostly travel and hunt.

#1: You gotta deal with the front end. Swaybar, links, springs. Gotta do them all. Get 04 bar and links, 130-150# straight-rate springs.
#2: Steering/flotation. Those weenie skis are DANGEROUS if you ride on anything thats even slightly crusty. Get Simmons skis.
#3: TRACK... do NOT be afraid of going real long. 144" is excellent. Gives you the same footprint as 136, but lower approach angle for lower slider wear, less friction, and HIGHER TOP END. Also performs better in the DEEP stuff. With a 144 it'll still corner like a 121.
Other stuff that can be fun to play with: clutching, grip warmers (they start on full blast every time). Don't mess with the intake or exhaust. The difference is NEGLIGIBLE, makes it *seem* faster because your sense of SOUND tricks you. 03 seat is excellent. Soft seats SUCK because you can get stuck in them like a fluffy couch.

:ORC And you base this opinion on what LB? When you spew this BS on an issue I know works it makes me wonder if you're full of crap on other things I don't know anything about to
You have Zero experience with the ECP kit so don't comment on it :ORC

LB is absolutely correct about ONE thing...... the stock skis are dangerous on crusty or slushy snow. ANY mountain ski is an improvement.
If you are a high mile rider, his other points (#1 and #3) are what I'd spend $$$ on before fine tuning the engine.

I'll second that about the ski's, if you do nothing but one thing then put on Simmon Ski's. If your looking for some serious increase in acceleration from out of the hole to W.O.T. Then go with the E.C.P. FILTER KIT & SPEED SHOP CLUTCHING for it. You won't be sorry, and there is lots of posts you can read that will back that up.

Listen to LB on these two points. I also have the 2003 RX-1 ER, rode one season without points 1 & 2, then a season with points 1 & 2. The difference is night and day. Point 1 is probably around $200-250 for parts and the Simmons skis are $400.
If you don't install a long track kit, at least upgrade your track to longer lugs. I assume you ride powder conditions in Alaska where studs are not really required.

If you don't buy the better track, then buy a shovel and tow rope, maybe GPS, cos you will be stuck, a lot. Maybe a 2nd extra belt, as you will burn them up trying to get unstuck. And maybe a back brace.

Best advice yet
Lets put performance updgrades aside for now. The things you should definetly do IMO are the following
1. New Track
2. Longer Sway Bar links
3: Heavier Sway bar
4. C&A Pro Skis or Simmons Flexi Skis
Those 4 things will dramatically help with the fun factor of the sled. As for performance updrages, youll get 100 opinions on this one. For my money, clutching has always been the first place to start on a stock Yamaha. ECP offers a nice filter package which needs proper clutch calibrations to get the most out of them. If I can help you with any pricing, please let me know. Good Luck...BBY

Better yet, do a search on ALL the posts where this discuss has been gone over and over and over and even though facts were supplied and reinforced by others who have used and experienced the product, as you can see the nay-sayers still haven't learned. :ORC
Do make sure that any comparable tests are done on sleds with the same setup with the exception of the ECP kit; not your 144 vs. a 121 with a ECP kit.
