I know this is not an atv site.......but there isn't much traffic over there.I need to know how to unhook both driveshafts from a 660 grizzly....were pulling the engine.
It is much easier to loosen one of the diffs and slid it back a bit. Both driveshafts just slid in to a splined collar on the engine with a spring inside (be sure not to forget to get the spring back in on instalation).
It is possible to remove the engine without loosening a diff but it is much more difficult, requires two people and is damn near impossible to get it back in with everything in its proper place. If you have the engine ready to come out except for the driveshafts you can slide the engine all the way forward or backward and should be able to just slid the driveshaft out. Then slip the engine the other way and the remaing shaft will fall out but remember you will drive yourself crazy trying to put then back in using this method.
Thinking about it for a moment I should add this method is for 2004 and newer. It may work on older 660 grizzlys but some older models required dissassembly of the u-joints in the machine to remove driveshafts. Look closely at the yoke on the engine end of the shaft,if you see a nut in the middle at the engine side you will have to dissassemble the u-joint to access the nut but once you have the joint out you can leave the engine yoke on the motor till you have it out.
