I am in the process of putting together a summer project. I am going to boost one of my XTX's, and looking for some advise.
I mainly ride my sled in the UP, and want a few high mile days, so I'm not looking for a full-tilt Mountain sled, and I do intend on a few ditch banging days at home here in Iowa.
Would you guys build a boosted sled using a higher boost level and control it with a boost controller, or build a more cyvilized system that is simpler with 7 - 9 lbs boost, and make it more user friendly.
I'm not looking to stay within a certain buget or anything, but what would be the best possible setup?
Post your dream setups!!

I run my PL kit at 10 here in Iowa and had a ball. Ran it at 12 to 14 out west on 91 octane also. If you want more boost just buy better fuel.

If I were to do it again I would probably research puttng in low comp pistons and maybe even rods. Not a lot of extra money and the motor is laying in your hands anyway to put the head shim in. Boost is definitely addictive, the first couple rides at 10# was holy $hit, but by the end of the year the butterflies were gone.

There ya go then, I think Ulmer is still finalizing their kit at this time, Dave's looks awesome. Hey Dave Head shim required at 9 psi on 91?

Don't forget about the fuel requirements. As you know in the U.P it could be hard to get higher octane in the woods. That is why I am going meth. Most people are saying to go 9-12lbs for trail setup on a Nytro. Depending on your riding style of course. They aslo suggested to go with a Shockwave helix setup for coverting from trail to lake. Just I deas they gave me so far. Good luck with your coice ;)! Keep us updated

I"m using the MPI product line, but my question is more of:
More boost with more control (ie, boost controller for more flexibility) and the motor mods to make it withstand the punishment, and to "show off"more goodies?
-or-
Less boost with a more "idiot proof" system and a system set up for the masses..
I want to get feedback for some build ideas for a write up for the site.

THis could be good nate I am excited to see this next year up in the U.P....

good luck my friend I will talk to you

Looking forward to this build. I want to include as many site vendors as possible, and really showcase what can be done to these sleds.

Also, Please add your location to your site profile, per site rules.. Thanks

Nate...in the world of boosted sleds those that have gone to boost almost ALWAYS go to More Boost or Bigger Turbo's.

I know I say this now but I'm happy with staying @ 10lbs boost...
... With a Water/Meth System
... With a Fail Safe Controller
... With a Turbosmart Manual Boost Controller
... With a Full Gauge Package A/F, Boost, Water Temp, Oil Temp & Water/Meth Light
...You can pretty crazy out there with a ton of cool products to add to your sled.

BUT.... you are going to need a BIGGER HELMET, too cover that HUGE SMILE on your face from all the fun you will have with that Boosted XTX

BTW....Don't forget to post the progress of this new project over in the 4 STROKE SLED GARAGE so we can follow it's rebirth

You can run Powder Lites at 9 psi all day long easy.

Is this at sea level with 91 octane Dave? With this set up, can you run WOT for 2500-3000feet?

On these sleds, how do you know if you detonating? Can it been seen with a A/F ratio gauge?

I think its time for some boost this year!

thanks in advance

Its funny that 10psi and 240-260hp is "idiot proof" and that we run these sled on a TRAIL LOL Remember 440's all 60hp of them?

Seriously 10 psi can kill 99% of the population when used wrong , these mountain guys have a whole different challenge and if your is a trail/ditcher then 10psi as 'idiot proof' as you can make it is what I am doing.

Don't worry, Bounty, the write up and the site vendors if half the reason I want to do this. The other half is obvoiusly the smile!!

Nate,
Why did you go with mpi? Im trying to deside what one to go with. UP riding, no trail riding. I ride a nytro mtx and thinking about changing the rear end (mpi), under tunnel exhaust?, powerclaw, already put on fox-x's shocks on the front
Thanks, Randy
