I'm putting a new track on the wife's 13 Apex. I'm looking for a good pattern and number of studs. I don't want to do any on the outside of the track- just in the center. No need to go crazy with it- just give her a litttle more traction on the ice.

Thanks

years ago I bought a tool called an Accutrack it fits right over the track and you mark the holes with a paint marker if you follow the pattern it only repeats 3 times in one revolution. 96 studs down the middle will give you 32 scratch lines perfect for what you are looking for. Got it out of a parts unlimited catalog I got the alum one so it would last for ever.

If you didn't buy the track already, you could consider an ice attak XT track. 1.22" tall lugs, based on the ripsaw 2, pre-studded enough to give decent traction when the trails get icy. Also they are able to make these single ply, so they weigh about the same as a normal 2 ply track. Studding a 2 ply track can add significant rotating mass. Just a thought for you, I threw a double-stud through my apex's heat exchanger (yest the doubles tear out too, regardless of what some people preach) last winter ending my season so this year I have gone with the ice attak XT track so I never have to deal with that again. I hate being stranded.

Careful directly in the center.
Back of studs were rubbing on the bottom of my front shock eye and started chewing into I and I had to move those.
This is on a 15' xtx

Ok- good to know but I don't think I'd be doing any directly in the center. I'm thinking pairs of studs in a V pattern so there wouldn't be any directly in the middle.

I used the plastic guide and hole cutter from parts unlimited on my 136", worked like a breeze. I think it was $20 at Novi last year.
