Hello all,

I was a Doo rider, and was in the market for a new sled.

Spent a lot of time with Doo's (I have a 2002 MXZ 800X and 1996 Formula SS 670), but with thr new REV and RT platforms, and problems, I was seeing many many people have issues.

Friend has a brand new Doo 1000, thing overheated, shut down, clutched wrong, and ate a set of carbides in 100 miles. Another friend has 800 rev, same types of problems. So too many complaints and issues for my business!

Bought an 06 Apex RTX last week and rode it this weekend. GREAT SLED, not one problem or complaint.

Have a couple of questions. When is the first oil change due? I hear the filter change is a bitch. Anyone here doing it themseves? How bad is it?

This sled will need some studs!!!!! Anyone got insight into how many, and what pattern, lenght?

I am a big boy, and will need the bg boy spring, is that easy to swap, or should the dealer be involved?

Thanks for the input, still love my doos but the Apex got it right!

I am the guy on the trials riding the Apex with the Ski Doo coat!

Congrats on the new sled and welcome

Oil change at 500 but my dealer said 800 is OK.
It is easy to change the filter IMHO, it just takes a lot of time and you have to remove alot.

Studs, I did 144, some did more others did 120.
Woodys the size would be 1.325

The idler wheels (especially the inside pair) are going bad on many of them (rubber peels off) You may want to carry 2 spares. Your dealer I am sure will take bad ones in trade.

This thread is by Allen Ulmer, some great disassembly instructions

a set of carbides in 100 miles..

ID say you need some snow... Ive never seen anyone eat a set of carbides in 100 miles...

Welcome to the site..

Get the RTX... 144 studs down the middle.. Yes, get the big boy springs (easy install) Oil filter change does suck but its more time consuming that anything.. and it beats opening the hood every morning before riding to add oil like the two strokers!

What do you need? Muscle relaxer to help wipe the smile off you face after riding! You will love the Apex. if you are at all handy with tools do the oil change yourself..follow the instructions given above..no problems.

Things you don't need:
- spare spark plug caddy
- spare spark plugs
- extra injector oil when you go on those long trips

Take Care

Jeez, I thought that was me :D Oh that's right, I've got the Attak.

Yeah I have 59 miles on the sled now! LOVE IT so far.

Need the big boy spring, need to stud the track! Thing rides and handles sooooo much better than my 2002 MXZ 800!!!

BUT, I have and internal idler wheel that the rubber started to peal off on (already). Going back to the dealer to get a replacement.

I went with 168 studs using Woody's Pattern, using Sabre / Accord 1.38 Warthog studs, The spring is easy to swap out also ( many topics on this site on how to do). If you have to cash I would also think about tearing off the stock skis and going with c & a's, slydog, usi, or something similar, it really improves the sled

Just a note, keep the studs off the center of the track. They can do damage to the shock.

? I have heard "stay off the outside of the track" and now "stay off the inside of the track"?

Anyone got a pattern they like? How much of a bitch is it to put the studs in? My dealer will put in 144 for about 350 bucks. I think it may be worth it!

Anyway, as far as my problem Idler wheel. I took the wheel off an stopped by the dealer. They started with the "we need the whole sled" for a warranty claim. I went back to my salesman and said, COME ON! Bring the whole sled in for a wheel with one bolt?!? GET REAL!

He gave me a new wheel, and I bought one more to have a spare. Gave me the RX-1 wheels, they said they don't have that problem.

ALso Ordered the Big Boy Spring. was 99 bucks and will be in next week.

Thanks again!

Not stay off the inside, stay off the center. You dont want studs in the very center of the track, directly in line witht he shock eye. The track rubs on the shock in some cases, it usually isn't a problem but can be if it's studded. So jsut stagger them around the center

Here is the pattern I went with, I did have some minor wear on the eyelet of the shock ( no longer touches shock). But I would just move the studs over a bit so they do not go over the shock eylet.

umm, aren't all the suspension problems with GT's, not RTX's.

Is a bigboy spring really neccesary on an RTX?

btw... I ride with nice GREEN leather ARCTIC CAT gloves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
