I was originally told all new clutches. We know the secondary is a new roller with OD sheaves. Primary looks same (3 tower) but they made it sound that its beefed up....hmm

Really? A ski doo trail sled- for example a renegade xrs is 600 pounds. With a disposable oil burner that maybe produces 165hp on its best day. The new sidewinder probably weighs around 640lbs with 180hp- and no drawbacks of a 2 stroke.I can't stand Ski-Doo but I don't know if I can agree with that. They have a new 2-smoke doing 165 hp on what I would guess is a much lighter chassis.... seeing that Yamaha is not releasing weight or actual hp numbers..... and releasing a sled a new technology turbo 4-stroke that appears to have possibly only a handful of hp over what Cat put out 8 years ago? I hope I'm missing something because I'm really starting to yawn. New side panels look cool though!
That 177hp Cat engine was a bolt on turbo joke. As much as I like N/A, the sidewinder engine was purpose built for turbo boost, and eliminating all drawbacks.
I'll take it over any ski doo any day.

Sorry if I seem narcassistic, just a let down. I was actually kind of excited to have a reason to trade off my viper but after seeing this I think I'll just turbo what I have. At least I know it's a proven engine. It'll be interesting to see how this thing performs next winter. I hope it does better than I think it will.You doing OK yamacat? Having a bad day?

I'm tired of all the oh #*$&@ this new super tech advanced Sidewinder Turbo is expensive ...
Go to BRP site and build a Doo... Add the features , add their LED light kit, add their adjustable shock option , add an aftermarket turbo , add , add, add...
Oh and u still have a 2 smoke so add your engine job in 5 k...
Then give your head a hard shake after u take it outta your ..... The sand...
Boys this is technology and If u play u pay.
I for one won't bitch at all about the price because I'm getting exactly what I'm paying for and all covered under their warranty ...

Amen! And as far as Yamacat21's suggestion regarding buying a leftover Viper, I say "Find one!" Find a leftover LE, which is the only model many of us want, in a 137, with the high-end shocks. First, you wont because Yamaha didn't make an LT-X with the best shocks. Second, you wont find an LE model leftover, period. $16,500 for this hobby is nothing. Go online and "Build-Your-Own" 'Doo Renegade or Poo Swithback (like I did yesterday) and you'll spend as much if not more.

Not sure what you paid for your Viper but adding a turbo kit isn't cheap by any means. I'd take the new model all day over a turbo Viper. I heard back from one of my sources today that was at road reports. Said he couldn't believe the performance. Never heard him talk like this about a turbo kit Viper. It was the buzz of all the magazine writers. The 850 e-tec is last weeks news.Sorry if I seem narcassistic, just a let down. It's cool you like it but what have they done to change the industry? The turbo'd Suzuki 1100 twin has a lot of the same stuff and was released back in the Barney chassis. I've ridden two of them and while they hid their weight better than a Deltabox chassis they were still fricking heavy. I rode the mountain versions and they were pigs.
The sidewinder is the same basic thing. It's the same pro cross chassis, it's not a pure Yamaha and it costs a ton of money. I'm sure in my neck of the woods there will be quite a few sitting around the showrooms gathering dust because they only appeal to a very small group. This new machine shows to me that Yamaha is no longer a sled builder and instead has transitioned into a motor supplier.
I've got to admit I'm bummed and I don't have a never ending supply of optimism to look forward to next year hoping they come out with something that compares with what is popular. The sidewinder officially killed my interest and enthusiasm for alYamaha sleds. It's obvious they don't know, understand or care about what the average sled buyer wants. Both Ski-Doo and Polaris do and that's where my money will go.
