Just wondering if this new belt causes any clutching differences as far as rpms changing between the two belts. Whats the differences between the two. Thanks

01 belt is a hair wider. It is the same hardness & length so it won,t affect rpm,s.

Does anybody know why Yamaha created the 8DN 01 belt?

The wider belt engages smoother. They are trying to get away from the usual surge that the 00 belt creates at engagement.

No kidding! I bought shims to cut down the space between the sheaves and the belt but now I can just buy a new belt (much easier).
Excellent!

The following is from a post I did regarding the new 8DN-01 belts last season when they first came out and a couple other thoughts now that they have been out for awhile. First off the only reason for the new part number was the added expense due to the extra step in manufacturing them - there were no other changes to the belt regarding compound or anything else. Also at this point it appears the majority of the 8DN-01 belts in regards to width appear to come in on the wide side (often wider than the original 8DN) but I would expect over time as the new machine for building them breaks in the width will vary. Lastly their is no problem with running either the 8DN-01 or the original 8DN-00 on any machine originally equipped with an 8DN style belt - they are totally interchangeable.
Here's the real story to the new 8DN-01 belts. The manufacture of the 8DN belts (Mitsuboshi) built a new machine (identical to the old machine) for making them and wasn't happy with the finished look of the cord (frayed I guess) you see on the side of the belts with the new machine so they added another step to the manufacturing process that removes .2mm from each side of the belt to give the belt a better finished look. What confuses most people that will measure belts is that if you measure 100 of them they will all vary in width, thickness, angle, and outside circumference. For example the Yamaha production tolerance on the original 8DN belt for top width is 34.5mm + or - .6mm. That means the width could be anywhere from 35.1 - 33.9 mm and still pass production specs. This helps explain why changing a belt will sometimes cure a belt squeal at idle as the new belt might be narrow than the old one. The new production spec on the 8DN-01 belts for width is 34.1mm + or - .6mm. So in theory if you measure 100 regular 8DN belts and 100 8DN-01 belts you should find the regular 8DN belts should on average be thicker than the new 8DN-01's. All other measurements for thickness, angle, and outside circumference is the same between both belts. In time the only belt available will be the new 8DN-01 style as Yamaha and the dealers exhaust their supplies of the original 8DN. For 99% of Yamaha's consumer base this difference of the belts means nothing and will have no noticeable effect on performance. The other 1% will do what they have always had to do and measure each individual belt in hopes of finding the thickest one possible for their racing needs. Hope this info helps clear up any confusion or questions on the part number change.
