Yamaha service tech says my new battery is "no good" because my stator is shot? 1st time my display went blank I thought it was the battery. Bought new battery, display went blank after 20 miles. If stator isn't working woudn't battery just wear down and need recharging like a normal battery.

You could also have a short from wires rubbing through on chassis.
