Yup the MLP is the one I would be getting, small, agile, light, great suspension, great floatation for such a light sled and fast enough for any jumping, trail riding or for trail breaking. Will be great on gas and just plain old lots of fun like in the picture above add in EFI and reverse. With the problems of not enough electrical power in the Apex line up you can bet there will be lots extra built into this little fun sled.

How do you guys feel the Phazer Mountain would do on the groomed trail. We do not get much powder in the east, but I love to take the sled off trail. I would use this as a second sled, if it could handle the groomed trail, that would be a plus.

I think the specs said 144 inch track put some scratchers on and you will have the best of both worlds. Going off trail with this thing would be a blast and with mountain skis it would float above the snow no problem.

For my use of a snowmobile, the Mountain Lite would be my only true choise of the '07 Yamaha-line. Light, agile, great suspension, not too pricey, and looks like a hoot to ride! The only drawback would be no cargo-rack (for my use), but I can always strap on a backpack. I hope there will be a demoride near me, so I can get to try it out! With black and blue panels it will almost be perfect... ;)!

After the initial 'what the heck' factor dies off, I'd say Yamaha [or maybe Honda!] could hit a real home run if they built the exact same sled, tossed in a 1000cc triple pushing 135 hp, 155" track, sub 500lb. dry weight, and kept the price at $8199...

Potential issues from a repair/durability view:
* integrated chaincase & frame is a bad idea. What happens when you toss a chain or trash a bearing? Now you're sinking big $$$$ into fixing something that traditionally isn't that big a deal to repair.
* gauge package is sweet, but seriously doubt it will survive a roll-over mounted on the bars like that.
* front suspension appears to be very vulnerable to stump/tree damage.
* severe lack of bodywork seems to give no rider protection from snow, wind, etc.
* also, on the clutch side, will the clutches be vulnerable to severe damage in a roll-over or side collision?

I do appreciate Yamaha's attempts to break out of the box, but I believe they have the ability to do it even better and want the bar set high. I just keep thinking 'What If they had only.....'

On one hand, you can probably snowcheck one for $6500, not bad in light of what an Apex Mnt. will set you back, but you're basically forced to spend $4 large on a huffer for it. So will it better at that price point than a proven Summit-8 or M-7? Will the engine hold together with several seasons of 15psi boost tossed at it? Should I wait for '08 and see what comes next?

it has quite the nice angle of attack on the track. kinda like going into a brick wall

thats my only problem with it. otherwise it looks cool

*The chaincase cover is designed to break out in the event of a chain failure.
*Gauge is vulnerable where it's mounted currenty, I agree.
*The front suspension isn't any more vulnerable than the RX/RS/Apex style body currently.
*There is a ton of optional windshields and wind deflectors available. Some of the models do come with them, they just aren't pictured because all product wasn't available for pictures, remember what you are viewing is a prototype and things can change.
*I and another guy pushed as hard as we could on the plastic shroud on the clutch side and could not get it to touch the clutches. Not saying it wouldn't touch, but it'd take a pretty good roll.

Just my .02

Just get out the saw and make your lugs what ever size you want.
Are you serious? Who has actually done that, and doesn't it ruin the lugs causing easier splits and breaks?

Yes I've seen it done many times, also seen people trim about 1/4" off the lugs when the lug tips start to get rounded out and chewed up.

The best way (IMO) to do this is make a jig (template) out of metal the height you want that you lay over the lugs (kinda like a stud template). Cut along the template with a utility knife. I use OLFA brand knives, the ones where you can break a piece off the blade as it wears out. It cuts through the rubber like butter.
