Hey guys new owner here. Picked up an 07 Gt (I think Gt anyway, regular track) in great shape with only 10000kms (6k miles)

It hasn't been run much at all over the last 9 months (maybe 100 kms). Seems run great but have a concern about the beat to death topic of exhaust donuts. Don't know if they were ever done.

Covering up the pipes for about 5 seconds made the rpms drop a bit but not stall. No funny noises, no rattling. However took it for a couple short blips down the street last night and had a couple small short backfires. Only happened after I gave it some juice and when I let off.

Question.... My kids are dying to go out for a couple small runs today (me driving), if indeed it is bad donuts, am I still safe to run the sled for a bit? I'll likely not put on more than 50 km's. Just running through a couple nearby fields.

Before any serious damage to the donuts or pipes is done will I have a but of notice... Like the rattling etc.?

Thanks everyone.

Is it entirely possible that the backfires are from the sled not being run lately and just needs it's legs stretched?

I also have a can of seafoam, wondering if I should just add some of that to the tank since its just sitting there on my shelf.

If it does not stall or want to stall when you cover the rear exhaust tips then the donuts are bad. Another 50kms won't make much of a difference.
Suck out the old gas and then fill it up with fresh gas. You can add a bit of Seafoam then.

I would empty all the gas. I would then find some ethanol free gas fill it up. Then I would definitely add a can of seafoam.

Thanks guys, Have access to ethanol free just down the street a ways. For a full tank of fuel, how much seafoam do you recommend.....whole bottle ..half ?

I think 1 bottle per 10 gallons. You know why I recommended ethanol free gas.

If you can't hear a patter patter under the fuel tank, they aren't that bad,,,, YET. MY 08 was bought used and could tell they were starting to leak. Was not fun changing them. My 07 bought used, couldn't hear yet, but when tore down, the 1 clamp had turn, so they were going. Was much easier. Could pull midpipes out far enough to slip them in. 08 I couldn't. Sooner you change them to the copper donuts, the better. My 08 I had to repair a flange because the clamp wore through it. Both can be bought from eBay or Ulmers I believe.
