So now that I am an new owner of a new sled I have lots of questions !

* What essentials did you need when you started?

* How do you store it? Do you need a cover? Any tips?

* Did you buy ramp to slide it in your truck, if so what kind. Or you prefer to trailer it around?

* Did you buy special clothing?

* Helmet? Are there things I should know when buying one. Off road style with Goggles or can I use my regular motorcycle helmet (a Shark)

* What essentiels do you take with you when you are gonzo for the day?

* Maintenance: What schedule do you have? Do you bring it to the dealer for service or are you a DIY?

* Do you do any pre and after ride maintenance or do you just start it up, ride and throw it back in the barn?

* Do you take a GPS with you?

* What magazines are worthwhile reading?

* Do you always go with friends or do you ride alone too?

* Anything I am forgetting?

Re: New sled, what else do you need? Questions, questions...

Yikes, that's a lot of questions! I'll try to answer a few, but next time, one or two questions at a time.

Also take the time to search through the site using the search button near the top as well as clicking on the "stickies" in the threads that apply to your sled in each each of the forum topics.

* What essentials did you need when you started? Proper clothing, preferably waterproof and well insulated.
* How do you store it? Do you need a cover? Any tips? I store mine in a barn so no cover then but if outside definately cover it.
* Did you buy ramp to slide it in your truck, if so what kind. Or you prefer to trailer it around? Built a ramp, search for plans/designs.
* Did you buy special clothing? Waterproof...Goretex
* Helmet? Are there things I should know when buying one. Off road style with Goggles or can I use my regular motorcycle helmet (a Shark) I prefer modular full face helmet...never tried open face with goggles...too cold in my opinion.
* What essentiels do you take with you when you are gonzo for the day? Gatorade, snacks, money, tow rope, spare belt, spare sparkplugs, tools.
* Maintenance: What schedule do you have? Do you bring it to the dealer for service or are you a DIY? DIY, far cheaper and you get to know your sled better and how it operates, etc.
* Do you do any pre and after ride maintenance or do you just start it up, ride and throw it back in the barn? Fluid level check, loose bolts check, run the track on a trackstand to loosen things up.
* Do you take a GPS with you? Yes, but not required, trails are marked.
* What magazines are worthwhile reading? Snowtech, Royal Distributing, Dennis Kirk.
* Do you always go with friends or do you ride alone too? Mostly with friends, rarely do I ride alone and if I do, I ride a lot more cautiously.
* Anything I am forgetting? Most likely you'll have a lot more questions to come, just read through this forums regularly and you'll know more than anyone you know.

What sled did you get? Look up any info regarding any shortfalls on your model sled, ie. hand warmers, idler wheels, skis, exhaust donuts, etc.

Yeah, sorry, I know, I'm just happy and looking forward to doing some sledding. You probably know how it is, boys&toys.
I didn't want to start up all sorts of topics at once, but you are right, lots and lots of questions.
I surely will do some searching and browsing, found a ton of info already. :rocks:

I got a 09 RS Vector. Going to sign this afternoon. Wooaaahhh....

When you purchase your OFSC trail permit you will receive a magazine subscription with it. It usually contains some good information for sledders of any level. Try to purchase your permit from your local club or the club where you will be doing the most riding.

I would assume the Athens club would be your home club. The club house is open 24 hours for OFSC members to use. They also have the kitchen open Saturdays and Sundays for breakfast and lunches or just a coffee. Great people and lots of active members.

Good idea, I am not much of a club person, but I am seriously considering joining the Athens club. I am guessing that riding together is more fun then on your own. And it is a good way to meet some people. Maybe I wil stop by on saturday.

I am picking up the sled tomorrow at Go Powersports. On my birthday no less. They are really putting in an effort to keep me happy. Really lookin forward to that. I will try and drive it home, I think there is a trail.

I see that you have a celebration tomorrow too. Your third anniversary on this forum. Congratulations. :-o

First thing we teach kids in snowmobile safety training class...NEVER RIDE ALONE!

Doesn't matter if you're 12 or 52 never ride alone! Welcome to the addiction...or is it a sickness? Nevertheless, it pretty much rocks.

Oh and priority number 1 should be joining a club! Have fun dude!
