SW - but i would look for one with lower miles. The ride quality and handling will out strip the apex all day long.

If you choose the winder check it over good for antifreeze leaks. That hose by the top front of the track that is exposed can be a real problem if it gets a small puncture in it from ice build up. Hopefully the previous owner put some sort of protective kit on it.

Apex hands down, Better ride,handling, comfort and quality.

LOL, I dont know about that. Ride is way worse on the apex, handing on the Apex is only good on smooth trails, comfort is no question way better on the sidewinder and quality is a wash. Stupid things go wrong with apexs and same with the winders.

LOL, I do know about that! Happened to my buddies brand new winder. 20 mile tow job,no coolent left,dealer couldnt fix in a day so he spent 3 days in hotel while the rest of us rode. Got home, took it to local dealer and Yamaha would not warranty the fix. 800.00 dollars later on A 16,000 sled it was rideable again.

LOL Yes I know that. I own both sleds, my Sidewinder sits in the trailer for sale while I ride my Apex hand down. (IMO)

I would go with the Apex if you ride mostly groomed trails, it is the most rock solid snowmobile out there hands down! I love my Sidewinder but I can ride longer on day trips with my Apex.

I find the opposite to be true. I cant even think about going back to the riding position of an Apex after riding "modern" sleds. I get the chance to ride an Apex and Rage/Vector every now and again. I also have owned a RX-1, Apex, Phazer, Nytro and A Rage. Its the seating position/front end that always stand out as being the things that needs the biggest improvement. No question the engine and running gear are stellar. Suspension and handling? Not so much.
Not sure how tall you are but the shorter people seem to be able to ride the older sit down sleds easier.
They don't make sleds with that style of riding position any more. The reason? There are better options. In fact, no other type of vehicle makes you sit in that position, on your tail bone.

I still own both I put the taller riser and wrp seat and suspension upgrades into the apex and it still sits on the trailer while I ride my sidewinder. and sidewinder has had no seating position or suspension upgrades at all. my son is glad as he gets to ride a very nice apex but every time I get on it I just cant wait to get back on my sidewinder. don't get me wrong it is a great sled but for me night and day difference and I will take the sidewinder all day just rides so much nicer.

Come on....now you are reaching.... some people use them on ALL new brands. I did on my viper, I dont on my Winder. Whatever.

This is a funny string of responses........The apex feels like a riding a sled from the 80's. Knees up around your ears. Cramped back after a few hours. Sure it rides ok, but if the trails are rough its gonna be long day. As for handling, on sweeping turns its great but you eventually lament 90 degree corners. Its like swinging an aircraft carrier around in a harbour.

The SW has a great seating position. Legs are stretched out under the body. You can get on it at 8am and not get off till 5pm and feel like a million bucks. It makes mince meat out of pretty most bumps and swings around most corners with such ease - no skis kicking up in the air. Its so good - instead of looking 10' in front of you while you are concerned with negotiating the nearest bumps, you can now look so much further down the trail. Honestly the the procross makes you a better rider.

Absolutely true. I remember riding through a long straight bush trail up near Walters Falls this past winter. Huge consistent bumps. I sped up, instead of slowing down and recall thinking to myself how impressed I was at the procross' ability to stay straight, predictable and relatively smooth considering the trail was a giant washboard.
I also thought to myself that if I was still on the Nytro, I would have had to slow down or risk being tossed into the trees.

Hmm, I wonder how I was able to put over 2500 miles on the first year of owning my 18 Apex XTX which now has over 5600 miles going into its third season. The group I ride with do exactly that; get up at 8AM, ride somewhere for lunch, and then come back to the cabin for supper and adult beverages only to repeat the following days. That's how we average close to 200 mile trips each day. To say the Apex is like riding an 80's sled is a bit of reach. Now, if you had substituted the RX-1 for the Apex then I could agree; although I still own mine. Different strokes for different folks doesn't make one less than the other. Now excuse me while I contact Doc and Marty and Get Back To The Future.
