Hey guys,

I run about 250Lbs with gear. Any reccomendations for a front/rear skid set-up? I haven't changed the spring but I'll be rebuilding the shocks.

Any settings for:

Front Shocks

Limiter Strap
Pre-Load on Ohlins EC
Traction Control Rod Setting

Thanks, RXW

Yeah I agree at 250 your gonna want the spring. & tighten the limiter one hole. Set the control rod at 1/2 way its easy to adjust from there depending on how much ski lift you want on launch. I would stay with the Ohlins. I have 2 sets and feel the bound and rebound is much easier to adjust than my Floats I would spend the money on skis if you have to spend it. I set up several Attacks and LTX's in the last 2 yrs and found that riding style, weight and studding (hookup) severely changes the feel of the setup.

If you do a lot of fast trail riding I would even recommend the 13mm sway bar up front. Although if you play a lot it really makes laying the sled over to carve difficult.

The big boy spring was always something I wasn't sure of. Everyone told me that the 08's are improved so I should ride it first.

What's "stock" position for the limiter strap?

The control rod.....I'm good with.

I have a set of SD Precisions that I'll give a try.

As for studs, the sled has an IceRipper so its equivalent to minimal studding.

Thanks.

I'd have to check but I think there was 3 sets of holes left below the bolt down to the shaft on the skid and I think the originag setting was on the 2nd set of holes down from the top.

I think a lot has to do with weight and height depending where you sit on the seat as to the final setting. The taller and further back the more transfer there will be and the shorter the strap setting. If you play more in the deep stuff you want the lift so you let the strap out. Drag race vs. playtime.

Yamaha has a recommended measuring process to determine if your spring has enough preload for your weight. I have done the process several hundred times and it is a great starting point. (It is supposed to be done by the dealer! Ha ha)
1. Hang the suspension in the air by the rear bumper and measure the overall length of the spring on rear shock.
2. Now the rider sits on the sled with about the correct riding gear, and saddlebags or any additional weight he or she may carry, have someone else stand on the rear bumper and bottom out the suspension, let the suspension bounce back up on its own
3. With the rider still sitting on the sled, have some one measure the overall length of the spring again. Difference between the two measurements should be 40-45 mm. I have found most of the time going towards the 40 mm stiffer side works the best unless the rider is a non aggressive slower rider. Keep in mind not to go too stiff with the spring or you will cause shock damage. The overall spring length on an LTX is 265 mm. DO NOT MAKE THE SPRING SHORTER THAN 265!

The transfer rod adjustment is a great way to adjust your ski pressure or lack there of. With a long track we always have to adjust the rod for max ski pressure. (Because the long tracks push in the corners compared to short tracks) If you still feel there isn't enough you can pull the front limiter strap up. I'd suggest one hole max. But when the strap is pulled it takes away from the "fun factor" of carrying your skis over the crest of a hill or the ease of carrying your skis over a creek crossing etc.

I have ridden and spent alot of time on just about every monoshock suspension, and also tried many different revalve and spring options from Pioneer and Hygear so please let me know of any questions. Thanks, Andy
