First post on this forum. I also have an 04 F-7 EFI which I purchased new.
I like everything about my new Apex better except for the handwarmer issues, and it's a bit loud around the 4000 RPM range. Planning on foaming the bar to help the handwarmer issue. I'm keeping the F-7 around as an extra sled for buddies to ride etc.
I had the dealer install 144 studs down the middle. I'm planning on putting some more on the outside to gain more traction. I ordered a Prolin clutch kit w/the higher engagement spring which should be delivered tomorrow. Will run against the F-7 before/after the install to realize the gains.
What has your experience been on studding the outside of this track?
How many more should I put in and where?
Are there aftermarket airbox mods available for purchase or do you have to make them from scratch? I read some posts about how good it works. Any reliability issues that may stem from modding the airbox?
I'm planning on updrading the plugs, fouled them out before from idling too much because of the lack of snow thing.
I've read good things about the items above, I want my sled to accelarate hard and don't care too much about top end.
Thanks guys.

hope you enjoy your new sled, as for studding outside ban some say no and others say yes, when i do it i keep them in center and i have had no problems, the noise at 4000 rpms i have never had that but you should'nt
be at those rpms very long, the other mods all seem to work, you could
gear down to help midrange.

I also run the ProLine clutch kit but I put in the lower engagement spring. It works much better than the higher one.Oh by the way you will need more studs if you want any traction on take off with that spring. When trail riding after it all gets heat soaked, your tach will be 5500 or higher when the sled starts to move. For like crossing a road.
I ended up running about 3 grams in the tip to keep my rpms at 10700 or a touch higher at wo.
Hope this helps.

welcome...
I also run Proline kit...I recently just swapped out the Hi engage spring for the dalton RED which is also the Low engage from John....i think you will want the low engage too after trail riding abit...this kit plain works IMO....this along with my ram air makes my sled run strong....lots of tricks and tips to find here on TY....I think ive done them all(see signature)
good luck with your ride....and UNless you drag race alot or run alot of short fields ect....i wouldnt stud outer bands...Im a radar lake runner so I keep them down, and only have 96 at the moment...but will most likely be adding 48 chisels later in season.
If you stud outer bands,do not get to close to edge...look near front and you will see LOOPS which the HEADS will tear up....so be sure heads are far enough inward to MISS these metal loops near front/top.
good luck!

My first post as well. Just bought a 07 Attak GT (black), and going for first ride this weekend. Been a loyal Yamaha guy for over 20 years.
My current sled is a 97 VMax 600 XTC with 8K miles (decided to keep it as a spare). The VMax is a great sled, never stranded me anywhere. Can't wait to come into the modern era!!!
