2007 Yamaha RS Rage
Hello everybody!
As the title states, I'm new to the forum and new to 4 stroke.
Yesterday I bought a 2007 RS Rage. 6050 miles. One owner sled. Previous owner stored it and had it serviced at the local Yamaha dealer. His words "if the dealer told me to do it, I did it."
I read somewhere on the forum about how to setup the suspension a little better, but can't seem to find it again. Something about shimming the skis, moving a strap bolt, and adjusting the front spring preload. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so, any guidance would be great.

Thanks!

Yea , I think you are thinking of Catman 's setup which is for the '10 and up sleds .
Not sure how it applies to your sled . Maybe the same ,not sure. Try a search. Or he my show up here
Good luck with the New Ride!

I'm here.

My setup applies to the DB 1 & 2 chassis.

This is for LTX or 121" also. This is the same setup I use on my '06 Apex GT (121") save for the ability to adjust the shock electrically vs manually.

Depending on everyone's given weight & trail conditions more compression may be needed on the remote dial on the tunnel. PLEASE realize this.

1. Front shocks-- pre-load measurement of 1 7/8" collar to collar

2. Front shocks-- compression. clicker dial is 3 clicks in from full soft. In other words, turn it in counterclockwise (out) 'till it stops, & then in 3 clicks

3. Front shocks-- rebound. clicker dial is 3 clicks in from full fast rebound. In other words, turn it counterclockwise(out) 'til it stops, & then 3 clicks in.

4. Rear Mono-Shock pre-load-- Leave it in the stock cam notch. This should be the middle notch.

5. Rear transfer rod-- Turn the transfer rod IN to a measurement of 1 1/8". Distance is measured inside, between the two slotted collars. One being the adjuster you turn & other is the lock collar.

6. Rear Mono-Shock rebound-- 3 clicks from full soft, according to the dial on the tunnel. In other words, turn it all the way to full soft & then 3 clicks toward hard. NOTE: the compression feel will also change as the rebound is set tighter for weight & trail conditions.

7. Some people have gone 1-2 notches tighter on the limiter strap. I personally have tried it & noticed no difference from the stock location.

REMINDER!! the rear setting can & will have to change some depending on your weight & trail conditions. This also will change the feel of the compression too.

On a side note also. As we all know the stock Yamaha skis suck major balls. WIDE SPACED Dually runners in the 6-10" range are highly recommended. I use these they BITE & DO NOT dart. They are the widest spaced duallys out there & are sold per pair, vs anyone else who sells each. www.johnmaster.net Sno Studs 8" double down PN# RD6808

As are Snow-Trackers if you choose that route.

If your Rage is not a GT (no reservoir clicker front shocks) the only thing you can do is the zero, or almost zero preload to the front springs ( the 1 7/8" collar to collar measurement)

Also, you need to be checking to see if the timing chain tensioner update has been done.

There's a sticky here at the top of the RS section all about it and how to check to see if it's been done.

It is not a GT. I couldn't remember very well if the setup I read about was for my sled or not. This is my first Yammie. I dont know all the ins and outs of what chassis I have. I had done a reasonable amount of research and talking with friends about the move to a Yamaha 4 stroke. Just starting to familiarize myself with it. I haven't found much for info yet on the Rage. Still looking though.

Yeah, I haven't checked on that yet. But I most certainly will before I head out for the first time. My quick joy ride before I bought it was fun. Sounded ok, but who knows for sure.

I shoulda been more clear. You can use my setup front and back suspension.

I just meant without the clicker shocks in the front, you're limited to the preload setting only.

So yes, this setup is for your sled. It's known as the Delta Box I chassis. Same as the RX1.

Got it. I'm not finding how to know if my cam chain tensioner has been replaced. Can you help with that?

Thanks

You'll need a telescoping inspection mirror ( small round one) and a bright flashlight.

The tensioner is buried low on the right rear side of the block. Looking from the chaincase dipstick, you'll see it.

Gotta fish the mirror in there and shine the flashlight onto it and look for an orange or blue dot on the tensioner. Unfortunately, it's usually on the underside of the tensioner, making it very tough to see, but it's doable.

Orange dot=old style(bad) blue is new updated (good)

Time to look for it-not until later this week.
Thanks for the info. I will be looking into it. Fingers crossed I see blue. The first owner said he had it serviced regularly at the dealer.
