You're in between,
for example using 1to1 shift at 8800rpm and 24/50 gears
3.0 8 tooth: 96mph
2.86 8 tooth: 92mph
2.86 9 tooth: 102mph
Pick your poison or regear

With a 154 x 2.5 track you could go with a 8 tooth 2.86 pitch.

Just make sure you choose 8 tooth 2.86 pitch.

The driver diameter (circumference really) is not the same on a 8 tooth 3.0 pitch vs a 8 tooth 2.86 pitch.
8 tooth 3.0 pitch is 7.50" in diameter.
8 tooth 2.86 pitch is 7.125" in diameter.
9 tooth 2.86 pitch is 8" in diameter.
8 tooth 3.0 pitch is 7.50" in diameter.
8 tooth 2.86 pitch is 7.125" in diameter.
9 tooth 2.86 pitch is 8" in diameter.
