We'll it looks pretty obvious that the new R1 motor will eventually make its way to the snowmobile line..190 hp:):)..it's just gonna be WHEN!!!SRX? ..and I don't know anyone in the YAMAHA R&D DEPT!!!!!just saying

No sled out of the blue camp will ever have the tech of an R1, unless Rossi wants them to build him an Apex. Call Dave at Hurricane, he can give ya 200 naturally aspirated ponies!

I don't even care if it is the new motor put an apex mill in the SRViper chassis and I'll buy one.

What drew your thoughts to that conclusion ???

I don't think they can get the required torque curve for a snowmobile without sacrificing top end horsepower

I'd think no also, they are probably going to have direct drive (no gear reduction) engines from now on I would think. Wouldn't be too hard to "up size" the triple to a 1200-1300cc engine and eclipse the Apex HP numbers and also whack a cylinder off and make a ~100hp twin.

1050cc triple / 135hp
1200cc triple / 155-160hp
700-800 twin / 90-100hp

seems like a good line up to me, and they would all share many parts saving money.

To bring the 1050 to 1200 to 1300cc would need a bigger stroke and or pistons, as the 4 cylinder is smaller physically and only 8pds heavier a beefing up the 3 cylinder makes it as heavy or heavier then the 4 and you loose the sweetest sounding sled on the snow. I don't see the gain only a loss! I wouldn't buy a 3 banger that made the same hp as the four and sounded like well a three cylinder. Might as well ride a Doo!

"Direct Drive". I think with the future 4 Stroke engines from Yamaha, they could do a true direct drive and also eliminate the jackshaft, chain case and all its gears. Look at all the weight savings.

Maybe they will go with direct injection like the automobile industry. New cars and trucks are getting more HP and MPG with this technology. If Yamaha can get HP numbers similar to a boosted sled with boosting theirs Yamaha would save weight and complexity.
