K I bought a 2009 Yamaha Venture Road Star. Comfy touring bike for me and my wife. Fuel economy and range makes me happy. Lots of storage room. Tons of creature features. So far loving it and can't ride it enough! Did I mention it fits me, I felt crowded on the Harley, hated the goldwing leg position, Kawi Nomad was not bad. Only other bike that was close fit wise was the Yamaha Road King. Ya I tried a ton of bikes out! The cruise is sweet, love the radio and have added my Sirious radio because in the bush we have two FM stations. Installed a few Ram mounts to hold the radio and stuff. Looking some good forums for Yamaha bikes?

Little people like to ride big bikes? :dunno:

I was out in an hailstorm with my wife last week! Nice sunny day no rain in the forecast in the morning when I checked. Great go for afternoon ride with the better half. Close to Kenora we hit rain off and on but not to bad so soldier on. Then it starts to rain harder my wife huddles behind me to stay out of it. I huddle behind the fairing a bit. We had stopped earlier cause the sky looked bad and checked the weather radar on the phone and there was a long ribbon of clouds with rain so we where passing through that. Then it started to pour and the hail started and all the vehicles pulled off the highway. I thought about that but sitting on the side of the road pounded with rain and nickle size hail, till it slowly past passed by was not appealing, rain was moving north south and we where moving west, it probably rained there for half hour of more. So drop the speed then let the fairing punch a hole in the hail and make for the end of the clouds ahead, other then a few that got my left hand (covered my face as hoping my hand was tougher) most just bounced off the top of the helmet. Mile or two and we where out, sun shining pavement dry and except for my knees My wife and I where for the most part as well! I think those that stopped must have wondered about that crazy guy on the bike!

I think I'm near a 1000 kms now with no real long rides, would like to do a 5,000 km ride next year if I can get us toughened up to ride that far. Drop stateside and cruise the east side of Michigan crossing back into Canada at Sarnia. Then go north of Toronto and run the east and north side of Superior. Do some visiting down east and voila 5,000kms or 3,000 miles for you. My dream ride was always ride to BC and down the west coast cross the US and up the east coast pop into Canada at Northern Maine and back across Canada till home. I might be a little old for that one!

I love the bike for what it is! A big comfy tourer. Its what I always wanted but I always rode more cruiser style bikes. My 81 CB 900 Custom Honda sits in the garage looking at me making me feel guilty. Maybe next year for the bike rally I'll insure it for the weekend and show up! Strip her back down to the way she was new. I should sell the bike!

Nice! To fast for me! ABS and traction control! I can think of a few times in the rain I wish I had both!

Glad to hear your enjoying it beautiful bike, hope the hailstones didn't hurt it.

Just got my GPS mounted on the sled...I put it just right of the gauges.

I have had tank bags with clear map pockets and hated glancing down.

So I decided not to do the riser mount.

Now got to figure out how to wire to an unswitched 12v source
Have a great day

Brings back lots of memories touring on my goldwing when I was young and free.remember getting caught in a hailstorm in Wyoming and had to lay face down in the ditch to protect myself from golf size stones.did lots of touring to the west coast.the pacific coast highway from San Francisco north is outstanding.used to do about 20 k a year.

I really like the Wings 6 cylinder engine runs insanely smooth! But like my Honda it puts the feet under the arse and is way to uncomfortable for me to ride. My wife would have loved laying in the ditch! My cousin has raved about the coast highway so much I dream about it! For years I've been a 2 k a year rider, In my youth I was a 5 to8 k a year rider. Now with a touring bike I hope to surpass that by a bit! My wife and I are retired now and the road calls to me.

I just sold my 2003 GL1800. I put 140,xxx miles on it.
I also have several sport bikes including a Yamaha YZF-R1. I average 15,000 miles per year on bikes, including several hundred on the track.

Cool cruiser. My gf has a 2007 650 V-Star Custom.
