Newbie question....Hyfax

I know this is probably a dumb question but I am real new to snowmobiling so I have no frame of reference and would appreciate your input. I bought a new Warrior last year and only put about 500 miles on it. I absolutlely love the sled and snowmobiling and home to do a lot more riding this year. I took the Warrior to the deal for an oil change and general checkup and they are telling me that the slides are about 50% worn and that I should consider replacing them.
I have not touched anything on the track so the set-up is as the dealer initially set it. The track does not seem too tight now but I am no expert.

I think I have read that the slides often wear quickly early on and then slow down. Thus, my question......should I consider changing the slides?

I know I want to ask them to recheck the track tightness. Thanks much for your help.

The slides will wear out afster if you dont keep them cooled with snow. So if you are doing alot of light snow rideing then they might wear faster.and if your track is to tight they will wear faster to.... If you plan to do alot of rideing this year you my want to have them changed for you dont have to mess with it in the winter.

The first half of your slides will wear much faster than the second half. So unless your riding a lot with no snow don't worry about it at 500 miles! just keep an eye on them I think most of us are getting at least 1000 miles on them myself i just put my 2nd pair on and i have 3300 miles on the sled in not always perfect conditions. There is a line on the side of the slides that you can see how much you have left just keep an eye on it especially up front where the rails curve (seems to be the worst wear spot).

No problem bro, we were all new at this at one time or another.
Yes they do take a set to them and the initial wear can happen quickly and things settle down. Do you plan on changing them yourself? They can be a b!tch especially if you are new to all this. I woudl consider having the dealer do it, just because the sled is already there. If you get really marginal snow conditions it is possible to wear them out in 200 miles, so it might be a good idea to start out your season with fresh ones.

What do they want to charge you to do this????

Welcome to the site I see you have the A-Arm covers beware if you do ANY off trail riding they crack very easy I took mine off and put them on the shelf after about two weeks hit a couple of small twigs and cracked one side.

funny thing, some like to shave off 50% b4 they hit the lake or even trail... some even buy them that way.... at least i do..
