I dont know much about the nytro but the top end is about 105mph?cant believe that its not that much slower than a apex or winder?why did yamaha not run with that frame and push it to the limits?and i know th rear suspension was weak but what if you have a winder skid in that frame?

The Nytro was plagued with front end geometry issues, ice build-up, and a small gas tank. It received a bad reputation right out of the gate in 2008.

To my knowledge, the only Nytro that went over 100 was the XTX.

I'd rather be on a Sidewinder.

I owned both, a Nytro XTX and a Sidewinder RTX. The Nytro is the sled that convinced me that the 3 cylinder engine is a better trail engine than the 4 cylinder. The front end was very frustrating, I could never get the front to handle like I wanted even with spring and spindle changes. I actually didn't mind the rear skid in the 144 form.
There is NO comparison in ride quality, seating position and handling between the 2 sleds. The Winder is light years ahead.

I understand there's no comparing im just curious of the shortfalls in case I buy another sled for my daughter, shes riding my 2000 srx now..

Just don't buy the 08 model, unless the front end is updated. I agree with others here. The Nytro had a fantastic engine, which is basically the Winder engine now with boost.
I rode one for many years and while it was OK in its day, the only regret I have is not trading to the Winder the first year it came out.

I will say that the Nytro steering was heavy. I never tried dually skegs or snowtrackers but it was hard to lighten the steering with the parts/skis I tried. The upside was it took minimal bar movement to turn the sled.
Maybe there was a way to reduce the steering effort, I just never found it.

Compared to an apex or any other Yamaha sled of that era really the nytro had poor handling and was very hard steering, these problems in the nytro were never corrected till about 2013, if you do get a nytro i suggest a 2013 or newer.

Nitro , kidding right hahahahahahahahahaha

Honestly, the Nytro frame with the Cat procross front end and skid would be the best snowmobile ever made. My old Nytro was very far from stock, but it was more fun to drive, handled better and was way more comfortable to drive than my sidewinder.

Honestly, I don't care what you do to any year Nytro it will never be remotely close to a Pro Cross chassis. I'm not sure what kind of riding you do, but to say it handles better than a Winder :carbs: and don't even start with the race front end.

Wow, I'm surprised you think the Nytro was more comfortable than a Winder. I completely disagree. One of the biggest improvements I found with the Winder was how much more comfortable the riding position is. Better still is the Polaris. I think the Polaris has the best ergonomics of all sleds out there.

like I said. My Nytro was far from stock. WRP seat, steering relocate and split rail skis. It handled and drove far better than my 129 RTX Le, and I would be less fatigued at the end of the day. Stock Nytro’s didn’t handle well at all.

Ah, the higher seat would make a big difference.

With some tweeking you can make the nytro super comfortable to ride and handle pretty decent. Did some big trips and long days on it. Change the skis and play with the shock and spring tension - it can be an easy sled to ride all day. But it cant keep up with a procross. That sled rides so effortlessly compared to the nytro.

Nytro is well built, its an easy system to work on and keep running. The procross is a pain - there are many Cat gremlins out there that are well documented on this site.
I joke and tell people an hour job on a Nyrto is a three hour job on a procross.
