Went to fire up the '07 Phazer FX on Saturday to a -5 morning and no start. It would just go errr...errrr...errr and act as the battery was dead. Ran one of those car jumper batter packs across the terminals and still the same. So the battery wasn't dead.
The sled started later in the afternoon when the temperatures climb to around 15 or so. Message left with Yamaha (their off today for Presidents day), so a call back tomorrow. What do you all think?
BTW, the dealer changed the oil at midseason last year...I never have touched the coolant. Also, the reverse is much worse...
Thought I could go a weekend without having to call Yamaha after a ride, guess not...

FYI - The cold start kit slows down the cranking slightly.

No not flooded, went out...turned key...waited few seconds for fuel pressure build up, turned key.
It cranked very slow like the battery was dead and then slowed to nothing. Thought the battery was dead, jumped it with one of those car portable jumpers...fully charged, still the same.
I'll save my true feelings regarding as I will be called a cry baby or just kicked off the site.

IT'S OK I WILL NOT PICK A FIGHT HEAR. YOUR STARTER MIGHT BE BAD, DEALER TOLD BE WHEN ITS COLD THEM STARTERS THAT ARE BAD OR GOING BAD WILL SOUND FUNNY AND NOT HAVE ENOUGH JUICE TO TURN THE ENGINE OVER FAST ENOUGH TO START IT. Mention it to the dealer, if thats the case they might beable to save your starter.

Yea that's exactly what mine did before it went out. Starters are on back order till March 20th. Went to my dealer today to get my watch off my sleds handle bars and talked to him some more about my sled and they told me that when they pulled the starter out of the sled that the two bolts that go through the starter had backed all the way out till they hit the case of the engine. That was the only thing holding those bolts from coming all teh way out. (PS the starter is on the bottom of the engine and requires pulling the motor according to the Yamaha shop manual, and the heads of the bolts that are coming loose face the engine case and can't be tightened while in the sled, and when you pull the starter out all the engine oil drains out too) The dealer can't get the starter to spin fast enough after rebuilding it to engage the one way clutch gear in the motor, so I'm bringing it to a starter and alternator shop to see if they can work some magic on it that the dealer doesn't know. Will let you know how that turns out. Don't worry there are no new starters in this country. I spent 6 hours on the phone and internet Saturday calling every dealer, salvage yard and parts place in Michigan, New York, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and the Dakota's, even some in Canada and Idaho with no luck.

LETS HOPE THEY COUGHT THIS IN TIME FOR HIM SO HE WONT BE WITH OUT A STARTER. wHAT YOU GUYS ARE SAYING IS WHAT IS HAPPENING. DESROYED MY STARTER BECAUSE THEY DINT KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON AND TO BE HONEST YAMAHA AT THE TIME DID NOT HAVE AN ISSUE WIH STARTERS SO THEY WERE HESITANT ABOUT REPLACING IT. WE THOUGHT I MIGHT HAVE CUT A WIRE OR THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER SOMEWHERE. UPDATED STARTER HAS BEEN REALLY GOOD SO FARE. 1500 MILES ON IT

I removed my starter with the motor IN the sled. Wasn't a big deal.
I lost 1/2 a quart of oil after removing the starter.

Do a load test on your battery and check connections before you do anything else.

The oneway clutch doesnt need speed to engage it.Turning it with a finger should engage it.If it doesnt your oneway is bad also. When starter is out if you put your finger in the starter shaft hole and turn the gear starter normally turns it should be free one way and stop other. If not it is shot.
