No Start then Code 43

Hey Guys,

Was out at the ice hut late last night. It was -25C or so. Went to start my sled and the fuel pump wouldn't energize. Cycled the key several times to try to get the relay to click, and nothing. Switched the middle 2 relays and nothing happened. switched the outside relays and the it started and ran.

Now I have Code 43 flashing. "ECU unable to monitor fuel system voltage"

Does anyone know what the other 3 relay's down by your left foot are for? Are they all the same type of relay? Anyone else experience this?

relays

relays from left to right are load,headlights,handwarmers?,rad fan
i think the relays may get moisture in them and freeze,its never happened to me,but seen it happen to a friend.
as for code 43,it come up on me last year and i disconnected my battery and reconnected and it went away.maybe i got lucky,dunno.

The headlight relay is not the same as the other three. Just had to change mine out as the low beam contacts seemed to have gotten burned. It would show continuity with a tester but none under load. I think the headlight relay on mine was the second one in from the left side of sled.

Was it the one that looked different (gloss black/white lettering) compared to the other 3 (flat black/no lettering)?

After doing some searching it seems the 4 relay's locations vary on each machine???

So, I just got back in from the garage and the sled was dead. No display, no relays. Boosted it and got it going but couldn't remove the booster or it would die. Looked at the relay's and found my fuel relay is the farthest one right in the series. There was a small dent in the side of the relay body that I must have did with the pliers when I was changing them out last night. With the key just in the ON position I could push on the wall of the relay and I could operate my fuel pump. These are extremely brittle. The dent was holding the relay on running my fuel pump and draining my battery.

Going to get a new one and a couple spares to throw in the jacket I think. I would have to suggest the same for everyone else as they are only $8 a piece.

Oh, still looking for the cause of the Code 43????
 
Had the relay problem last year in QC. Found I could get it to start by holding the relay with hand to warm it up and crank the key off and on until the relay would throw. Had to do it 2 or 3 mornings out of 8. Got a new relay once I got home. I think I got the area too wet when I washed the sled before I left on the trip.

Yes, the headlight relay looks slightly different from the other 3. It also has 1 more connector blade on the bottom as I remember for the normally closed low beam connention. You are right about emting them with pliers. I did that to the headlight relay when I was troubleshooting why my low beams wouldn't work. I keep a spare of the fuel pump relay and am now thinking of getting a spare for the headlight. Think you are also correct on location of the 4 relays also. They could be mounted on any of the 4 tabs.

Fuel system voltage (monitor voltage)
The ECU is unable to monitor the battery voltage (an open circuit in the line to the ECU)
 
Just wanted to update that I changed all 4 relay's (and have a new spare in pocket) and recharged my battery with my new optimate 3. Got everything back together and runs great and NO Code 43.
