Nosecone Bag...Problem?

Hey guys, just got a nosecone bag (from Santa!) for my new-to-me 06 attak but I noticed that there is a small device with cooling fins on it where the bag would go; I believe it is called a rectifier(?). It looks like there are some pretty sensitive wire connections leading to this device and I was wondering if anyone out there who has one of these bags can tell me if that rectifier unit is going to be a problem. Is there a way to protect those connections if, in fact, they could be damaged by the bag?

i had a small gear bag and did cut a wire after a season's riding, never noticed a problem, one time,i needed something in the bag and that's when i discovered the broken wire,i fixed it and routed it differently so i dont break it again, funny thing is nothing ever happened, what does it actually do

Your gonna love the X-tra storage

I have had the nose cone bag in my 2007 Attak for 3 years and no problem with the wires or rectifier. I will tell you this, after a long ride in deep powder i routinely take the bag out of the nose cone now. Just enough snow gets into the nose through the nooks and crannies to let it build up under the bag, once it melts and wets the bag it will freeze into the nose cone. I had it happen to me and found out about it freezing into place just when I needed to get it out (I keep a pretty well stocked tool kit in it) -- one of my buddy's on a Poo fouled both plugs and needed some wrenches. The sucker felt like it was welded in there! Great bag though adds lots of secure storage.

when i bought mine it said in the instructions to loosen the pivot bolt on the rectifier and pivot it about 90 degrees out of the way and it worked just fine for me

Long time ago but I remember there was a tab I had to cut off or bend to get it to fold down out of the way. Tape up the wires going into it for protection if so desired.

Thanks guys! I didn't realize there were instructions having you move the rectifier. Like MikeCam said, I'll probably tape those wires up for good measure too. Thanks again for the help!

Anyone have a copy of the instructions?
I just purchased a used one from BBW on here but it didn't come with any instructions.

I want to make sure it is installed correctly so I don't have any futures problems.
Thanks.

The rectifier/voltage reg controls charging of the battery on all Yamaha sleds. If the connections are broken (which happened on my buddies RX-1 warrior) the engine will run off the battery until it dies. Sled will start sputtering and then will die when all the juice is gone. In his case we think vibration caused the connections to actually break off the unit itself. Easy fix if you can get ahold of a new one, but that's not always possible on short notice. If it were me, I would make sure that it's protected from any bag you might be putting on it. Just my .02$

Irv, I never did any modifications to my Apex. I just set it in place. If mine came with instructions, I never saw them.

Thanks BBW, that is good to know! ;)!

(I will check my wiring though and tape/modify if I think it will do some good)

Sounds great! Thanks guys...I'll be sure to check it every now and then just to make sure all is good under the hood (lol).
