hey guys i am going to be looking at an 09 nytro here in the next few days, what should i be looking for as far as inspecting the sled? anything that you guys have would be helpful.

search this site for bent subframe...

I believe the 08's were the worst, 09's better, and 10's+ better yet.

I'd look for signs of oil leaking, check play in front a-arms (anything with a few thousand miles will likely be loose unless it was upgraded to oilite bushings). Check the track, look for missing studs if studded, missing lugs, tears, and other damage. Check the limiter straps to see if they are damaged or broken.

I also like to ask how it was stored, trailered, and where ridden. I prefer to buy sled that are stored inside, trailered in an enclosed trailer, and ridden where conditions are premium.

Other than that start it up and test ride it, listen for engine knocking, and any other rattling, etc. The clutches will make a little noise.

These things are build pretty solid.... minus the subframe.

i thought the subframe issues where only on the 08's??

Subframes are still an issue today. Knowing what I know now, if I were to buy a Nytro today, even brand new, I would install a strengthening bracket/gusset before it hits the snow. Fyi, on my 09 Nytro RTX (rough trail, my eye), I bent my subframe with less than 100km on the odometer at less than 5mph. Ticked? Yeah, you could say that.

nickleuci if the bearings were not replaced in the front end is it overall play you will see or is it a left to right/ ip and down thing? Grimm- do you happen to have any pics of your bent subframe?? and any pics of the strengthening bracket you put on it? Thanks for the info guys i appreciate it

Check underneath for damage, if he didnt have a better skid plate on, heat exahnger..etc. Check the sliders, to make sure he didnt burn right thru them.

The play will be in the front end in general, anything that seems loose. As for a bent frame - If the bars are straight and one ski is ahead of the other, or any signs of the shocks hitting the A arms, paint stress marks on them.. etc. Not a huge deal, we all deal with it, but something to look for and have the price reflect it.

if the subframe is bent how hard of a fix is it?? how expensive is it?? can your average wrencher do it??

Easy, $500 roughly, And yes average person can do it with a basic set of metric wrenches/ sockets

You can bend it back with a large bar or pipe to start with. What you want to do with it then is up to you.
