I think my dealer sold me the wrong one and now it's Sunday and I'm half way through the oil change.
What is the correct part number for the oil filter?
Also, how much oil do I put back in since the manual is very confusing.
With oil cartridge replacement 3.38 quarts?
Total 4.12 quarts? What the hell does total mean??
Thanks in advance!

I totally agree on the oil quantity thing......
And no filter part# in the manual??? I can't find it. Guess you are supposed to take it back to the dealer for such difficult maintenance items......

Hey there, I agree, it's a bit confusing. The total usually refers to the amount it would take if you were starting from a rebuild with "no" oil in the case. Even when you drain it, you don't get it all out.
P.S. the part number in Canada is 5DM-13440-00
Have fun!

For part numbers go to Yamaha-motor.com and navigate to the parts catalog.
As for oil, what's everyone going with.
Yamalube ? Full Synthetic?
I'm leaning towards Amsoil.

I went with what the dealer recommends, Yamalube 0W30 semi-synthetic. I was even going to do it myself until I saw the cost of the supplies ! It cost me about $20 extra to have the dealer perform the entire first service (oil and filter, suspension greased and electrical components covered with di-electric grease, chain adjustment) WELL worth it to me !

Yamalube. I was going to switch to Amsoil, but was convinced by a few friends to just stick with Yamalube until it's completely broke in. After the season, I'll change it again and switch it over To Amsoil!

4.12 is the total oil capacity
3.38 is what you need to replace when changing oil & filter
So there is .74 qt that doesn't drain out - seems like a lot - but look at the oil pan bottom & where the drain screw is and you can see where the residual oil is held. I don't know why the drain screw isn't at the very bottom of the pan ?????
Manual says to put 2.1 qt (of the 3.38) in the tank , and put the remainder in the engine (fill hole on top of valve cover)
I found a funnel at local hardware store with a flexible extension hose that I could get in to the valve cover fill hole.
I just put Mobil-1 0W-30 in mine.

My dealer said that the 0-30 Yamaha is on back order and it cost twice as much as 5-30... He said we have been putting 5-30 in all sleds coming into the shop with no problems. Yeah and $20 for a freaking tiny filter. What a rip. I guess its still cheaper then two stroke. The box says YFM660??? It better be the right one..

It's the same oil filter that fits all the 3 cyl/120hp engine's,I believe I read somewhere the WIX filter's are the best & only a fraction of the cost?

Even if you pulled the socket head plug (screw) on the bottom of the engine?
