I think my dealer sold me the wrong one and now it's Sunday and I'm half way through the oil change. :o|

What is the correct part number for the oil filter?

Also, how much oil do I put back in since the manual is very confusing.

With oil cartridge replacement 3.38 quarts?

Total 4.12 quarts? What the hell does total mean??

Thanks in advance!

4.12 is the total oil capacity
3.38 is what you need to replace when changing oil & filter
So there is .74 qt that doesn't drain out - seems like a lot - but look at the oil pan bottom & where the drain screw is and you can see where the residual oil is held. I don't know why the drain screw isn't at the very bottom of the pan ?????
Manual says to put 2.1 qt (of the 3.38) in the tank , and put the remainder in the engine (fill hole on top of valve cover)
I found a funnel at local hardware store with a flexible extension hose that I could get in to the valve cover fill hole.

I just put Mobil-1 0W-30 in mine.

Even if you pulled the socket head plug (screw) on the bottom of the engine?

You should pull that out, you would be surprised how much oil will drain out of the motor!!! ;)! With the motor drained, it will be 3.5 +/- quarts!!

No I did that already and yes I was very surprised at how much came out. Did you add the oil to the resevoir and the top of the motor whe you did you oil change?

interesting, I dumped it all into the dry sump, started it up and then filled it back up to the fill mark.

dang I need a shop manual. don't think anything bad happened though, probably don't want the oil pump to suck air too long.

I put 2qts 2 oz in the tank and 1 qt 10 oz in the engine per the manual

As far as the engine drain screw - I was just saying that the oil pan has quite a belly that hangs below where the drain screw is located. So - yes quite a bit of oil drains from the engine, but there must be a considerable amount still left in the pan because the drain is not at the lowest point.

I got about 650 km on mine. I'm planning a trip for the weekend and I don't know if I will get to put on the other 150 km locally before I trailer 200 km for my weekend excursion.

So, am I better off changing with 650 km on or waiting till Monday when there might be 1000+?

I haven't babied it for the 650 km but I havent run it WOT yet either.

What does everyone think?

No, I did not add any oil to the top of the motor. Got Apex RTX? said there was a thread on here somewhere about it. Anyway, he said not to worry about it!!

YES - the oil filter for the Raptor 660, Vector sleds, and the new Nytro are all the same part #.

I was in the exact same situation with a different sled before and I changed before. I think the 500 mile number is a higher number that Yamaha used to ensure everything would be broken in on the sled. I actually noticed a difference in mine at about the 240 mile mark. It was like someone flicked a switch and the engine sounded and performed even better than it did before.

I'd do it before.

I noticed the same thing at about the 360 km mark actually.

Anyways, the oil change is done. What a PITA that was.

Can someone explain to me why they quote 12 ft/lbs of torque for the filter? I have a decent torque wrench but if I use the yamaha filter with a filter wrench OR a K & N Filter with the nut (yes I used both as after I got the yamaha filter on I realized somewhere along the way I had squat it and was paranoid to leave it) my torque ratchet is up against the heat exchanger (made a nice couple of gouges). I'm just being to paranoid. I never bothered checking torque on oil filters in my life but doing this last night/this morning I came down with a case of obsessive compulsive with everything. Anyways, is there some tool you can get to properly measure torque on an oil filter with clearance issues? If they had angled the gd thing down 10 degrees it would be a non issue.

It is done now, ready for a good weekend. I got 3.5 L into mine. I love how the drain plug isn't at the lowest place. I tried to lift and tip to get more out but thats as much as I could. Better then the 3.2 Liters the manual tells you to replace.
