Nytro vs Vector

Thanks for the responses guys. I knew all along I would be going with the Nytro.... im not the type to sit down and cruise down the trail all day long. I hope that this engine is as good as most people say it is. Picking up a 2012 Nytro xtx next saturday, can't wait to ride it!

I personally think the Vector is a more versatile chassis and it handles better. It's better balanced (not as nose heavy) better wind protection, more places to put your feet like a Ski-doo XP. The chassis has far fewer issues and resale will be better. It comes with a bigger gas tank and doesn't have weird handling and ergonomic quirks to get used to.

I rode my old '05 Vector the other day. I had it set up with a rider forward steering post and taller Boss hi-rise seat and a 136" track. I sold the sled to my brother to buy my IQR and when I rode it again, it felt like a normal snowmachine. The Nytro always required me time to adjust to its "personality".

I couldn't get my 09 Vector to handle very well, lots of body roll..didn't put a 13mm sway bar in like my 07...going to try an 09RTX for a year or two, I'll be happy if it handles as well as my 07, with that 1049 engine it should be fun?

More versatile? There's nothing the Vector can do that a Nytro can't, other than go further than 160kms on a tank of gas. But there's a ton of things the Nytro can do that you won't be doing on a Vector. It's an incredibly versatile machine, and really the Nytro's strength is that it is such a good all-rounder, not great at anything, but very good at alot of things.

I still think Yamaha should make an adventure tourer based on the Nytro. All it really need is a bigger fuel tank, a real set of gauges, and a Viking style exhaust exit so you can load up the rear deck with gear.

My Nytro has been a powder sled, a trail cruiser, a back-country explorer, a long distance tourer and a beast of burden. It's a fantastic do-everything sled that Yamaha has short-changed by pigeon-holing it as a rough trail sled, something it doesn't excel at, at all.

Exactly the way I see it! Maybe yamaha will read this and do something about it!

As you know I had my nytro set up with an under tunnel exhaust, something that should have been done at the factory, it opens up so many possibilities for this sled. I do however go back to the stock exit for the exhaust because with my 1.75 track I had issues with contact! Yamaha could do so much more with this sled but like you said they have it deemed as their rough trail sled, lol. Took them 10 years to address the ski issue, I fear by the time they realize the potential of the nytro it will be gone!

The reason I still have mine is because I feel it is better than anything yamaha has built to date because I have "fixed" all of the issues that they refuse to. I know mine has taken a step back with my exhaust change but I feel it is still a better sled than they are building. That's my 2.4c worth (converted) lol

That's too bad about the exhaust clearance issues. I still haven't gotten around to doing an under tunnel conversion, despite having the stuff to do it for a couple of years, but the Nytro has officially been delegated the komatik pulling, wood hauling duties, so I'd really like to open up the space on the rear deck.

The most pressing thing to do is add another cooler, though. That's another area where Yamaha has beeen slack with the Nytro. It needs a huge cooler at the back, and could probably lose the useless radiator on the top.

I gotta agree with these comments. The vector is a great sled but is no way near as capable as the nytro.

The vector is great for open country running on wide open trails.
The nytro can do it all. On trail, off trail, climbing etc. it's a super comfortable chassis allowing the legs to stretch-out under the upper body. Then the ability to stand, is huge.

I noticed I could run the nytro day after day on long rides. Two days on the vector and the body was beat up.

I have had friends that were around 5' 8" say their legs felt cramped on that sled. I am almost 6', and found myself stopping to stretch. On the nytro, I could ride that for like an hour and half straight. You can just keep going.

i guess it all depends o what kind of riding you do most an d personal preference. we have 3 vectors at the cottage and my nytro xtx. we have 2008 shorty, 2008 ltx, a 2010 gt and nytro xtx. i love the wifes 2010 gt for straight trail riding and down right fly on it, alot different than 2008"s as far as power delivery.....FI change was amazing. i love my nytro tons, the father in-law loves to jump on the nytro everytime we go out, just to play a bit wheelie'g over stuff, standing up and acting like a little kid for a while. in the roughstuff the nytro is waaaay better but, i have spent alot more money and time setting it up. the in-laws vectors just get driven, they really spent no time setting them up and are base models, where as the wife's and mine have alot more time spent setting them up. at the end of the end of the day its all about personal
preferences.

ps....the wife hates my nytro....lol (VERY NCE!!!)

pss....all the above statements are my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.
