OEM Windshields - out of luck?

I've definitely seen it enough as it has been stock on all 2012 and newer Vector models and we have sold plenty of those over the years so if your anywhere near a dealership that may have a Vector in stock you may be able to view it in person. Personally I would use it over the old SMA-8FT96-21 shield due to its clean fit and look - protection wise it is very close to that SMA-8FT96-21 shield - the SMA-8FT96-21 may be a tad bit bigger near the handgrip area but the 8HV Vector shield is definitely better than the original Vector/Apex shields in that area.

Thanks. That's helpful. I think I might have to wait until the sleds are on display so I can check them out. Hard to return when you buy online sight unseen.

You ever see the Cobra/Powermadd ones? Any opinions?

Personally I'd go with what Kevin suggested. After market's never are as good as Yami stuff I think..I have the older mid height or med one he mentioned and it's great so this newer one is even better. The area of clear is so small it doesn't matter to me. I like to see thru it anyway when approaching rocks, etc.

Good points. The only thing holding me back is if this Vector shield is tall enough (or even the one I originally wanted for that matter). I'm trying to strike the balance of protection with looks and not wanting too high a shield. I definitely don't want support brackets. So if this is the tallest I can use without brackets then the decision is made.

That windshield should be high enough. He said it was like the Med height one which is the one I bought for mine. It definitively blocks the wind. The wind goes over your head.

Sounds like that's a winner then. Thank you!

The hand warmers aren't great on these machines. You have and should either or both options for them. 1. Yamaheater..works amazing tried and true. 2. good set of hand gauntlets. Wife uses gauntlets I use the Yamiheater mostly do to having to give hand signals etc. run the gps. Yamaheater.com and Rock the owner is great and will give you any help you need via email or over the phone.

Rockmiester's heated grips and hid lights are probably one of best mods I put on my sled.

I need to ride in the winter before I decide on this mod. I tend to always find my hand grips too warm, often running with them off, so I might just find I'm ok as is.

the apex can get quite hot in the right conditions and it will trick you into thinking the grips are good enough until it get in the single digits and you stop for a break trail side and the take off again. the main problem is they don't even turn on at idle speeds so no mater how long you warm the sled up the grips are cold. then its an up hill battle for them to ever get warm. it gets painful on this machine in the right conditions. I am not saying you should run out and get the yamaheaters because I didn't but I suffered more than twice before I did and then I was like why didn't I do this sooner. then I traded in the sled so I only got to enjoy them for 1/2 a season but they were nice.

Thanks. I've heard nothing but good things about them. If I find I need them, I WILL buy them. :)

Could always paint it not sure what kinda paint to use but its been done

The windshield? I could but would rather get a unit all ready to go, even if it costs me a few bucks.
