Ever since I got my Nytro in '08 the sweep of the bars seemed weird. I got used to it but this season I looked at my sled with fresh eyes and decided to make some ergo changes to make my sled more similar to my dirt bike. After searching and reading things on TY about the different steering post kits available, the OFT kit looked the nicest and best built.
When the parts arrived I was impressed with the quality. A lot of thought and machining went into the kit and the color, photograph directions are very good. One of the pictures showing the bending of the lower mounting block studs can be a little confusing but it has been addressed in some other threads here on TY.
The OFT kit puts your handlebars more forward and allows for the bars to sweep in a more side to side motion than the up and down like the steering wheel in your vehicle. Before I got the kit I paid attention to what my body was doing while riding with the stock setup. I noticed that at speed, moving the bars in an up and down fashion wasn't helping anything stability wise. I also noticed that when cornering hard, I was fighting the bars since they got in the way. When standing and corning the ends of the bars would hit my upper legs. It was always annoying but until I rode with the kit, I didn't realize how much I was fighting the stock set up.
With the OFT kit and my taller WRP seat, my Nytro feels really good and natural in both the bumps, corners and at high speed. For the Nytro's intended purpose, it should have come this way from the factory. In addition, the OFT kit removes any slop you may have had in your steering post. The stock plastic blocks are replaced with billet aluminum blocks equipped with oil-lite bushings. Rock solid and bulletproof. I'll post some pics of my sled tomorrow but I am stoked about my set up. It is hands down better than stock and easier to ride in all conditions.
I had some reservations about putting more body weight forward on the Nytro but I've not seen any downside to it. The control you gain is well worthwhile. I think the Nytro should have been set up to be more rider forward but I wonder if Yamaha though it might alienate their long term customers who came off the Deltabox chassis? In any case for me, it made the sled easier to ride.
