Ohlins on the XTX

It is no secret that I've been very disappointed with the XTX's bump performance. I truly think the stock XTX skid shocks are a POS and I developed that opinion about 5 minutes into my first ride. Well, I stepped up and bought sexy new Ohlins because I needed shocks in a hurry and Ohlins had a head start on the XTX set-ups. Wow, am I impressed. My POS has been transformed into a sled you can pour the coals to with little regard to the bumps. The difference is amazing. To be fair the suspension shops can re-valve the stock shocks and make other improvements, too. The bigger point is that there is a solution to the crappo rear suspension on the XTX, and the solution is in the shocks. I have an entirely different sled now, and I couldn't be happier.

I ride the stocks hard and I love the whole set up. What is wrong with the stocks.

Its really one of the situations where one sled can't be perfect for everyone. I didn't get a chance to ride both my Nytro's side by side, but I think I could ride my 40th RTX harder than my XTX. I don't think the difference is night and day, but the RTX was a little better in the really rough stuff.

My plan is to pound the heck out of the stock shocks this year and go for a set of good shocks next year.

I don't mean to imply that the stock XTX is a POS. I should have said I didn't find the rear suspension appropriate for my use. Different strokes for different folks. But, political correctness aside, the truth is I think the stock suspension is a POS. Last week I would've sold both XTXs for 50 cents on the dollar. That is no longer the case. In any event, I fixed my problem. Some other guys wanted to know.

Glad to hear you got it sorted out stewartb!! I personally love the stock suspension on my XTX, best and most adjustable suspension I've ever had! Suits my riding style very well, but like you said, different strokes for different folks!!
