Yep, i have a 2009 Apex LTX GT with 6000 miles. Always maintained at dealer and no mods on motor, just a little clutch kit. I ride long and hard, sometimes 400 miles in one day. The last 1500 miles, the motor started taking oil at a rate of one litre per 600 miles... wich is a lot, (almost as much as a 600 ETEC...) so after talking with the dealer, i'm really happy i got a 3 year warranty, they will open and check valves etc..

ANYBODY had this problem with theirs?? my dealer does a lot and never seen it after 2004's...

any ideas?

Oh, i always ran Yamaha semi-synthec oil, as per recommandation from the dealer..

When they open engine up they will know. I have 6000+ miles on 2007 Attak Gt using M1 0-30W burns zero oil but I broke engine in right. 1st 500 miles never went over 45MPH TOTALLY SUCKED doing that but now getting 15 mpg & runs like a hose. Sometmes 150s when run hard in 1st 500 miles burn a little oil but you are burning a lot. Let us know what they find.

Never heard of anyone staying under 45 MPH for 500 miles. Why???? That is NOT recommended break in under anybodies guidance that I've ever heard. Even Yamaha's recommendation does not call for this. In fact, general wisdsom from top engine builders says exactly opposite of this. Drive it like you stole it. Keep the motor under constant load for the 1st 25 miles of the engines life for optimal ring seating. This doesn't mean run WFO, but it does mean lots acceleration, lots of RPM variation. After the 1st 25 miles, it really isn't going to matter anymore, the rings have been seated. Poorly, or well depending on how you drove it.

If it didn't use oil before then, I would say something broke.
Are you getting oil in the airbox?

I bet you have a stuck ring....

Break in has zero to do with why you don't burn oil. Over heating is the only enemy of a four stroke motor. the Yamaha break in procedure is retarded!! I've had 6 four strokes now. the only one that ever burned oil was my 03 rx-1 and that was because it over heated.

I would have to disagree with that statement.
I don't follow Yamaha's break in procedure, I use Motoman's method.
But you can't take a brand new sled and hold wide open across a lake for ten miles, you have to give the rings time seat. break in does matter.
There's a ton of opinions on how to break in, but most people believe there has to be some kind of break in.

Who said anything about holding for 10 miles? I use Motoman's method as well.

Sorry,
When you said "break in has zero to do with using oil", i was just trying to make a point you have to perform some type break in.
not trying to put words in your mouth.

no worries. I still think water temp is the biggest enemy of the four stroke. think about yamaha's break in procedure. Unless your riding in poor snow conditions your not going to over heat a motor riding like that.

well, i don't know yet, i will next week..

for break in, it was a demo, but was the sled of the owner (60 years old guy) and i got it at 500 miles, so i can't say what break in it had, but i asume a reasonable one... and a good break in is not a slow speed, it is a variable rpm and not to long at a time at first... even if you ride 30 mph non stop for 500 miles, it will be badly broken in.. nothin to do with speed, more how you vary the RPM and load..

i'll give news next week..

i guess not many had that problem??

I guess I should have said I stayed in Twistys for 500 mile break in. Lots of speed changes hit the hammer then backed off never kept it at one speed but did not go for WOT either until after 500 miles. My bud rode like he stole it from mile 1 just depends & how you think about break in I guess. Whatever my engine purrs like a kitten & MPG went up after 2500 miles from 12.5mpg to 15mpg. Just seemed to wake up for some reason?

we all figured you ment that, but... at least i did...

yet in the owners manuel, i think they just mention top speed...

so you would be right anyway..

;)!
