I bought the sled new and have driven it for two seasons now and have 5000 miles on it. At the end of last year, on my last ride I was out riding and the oil indicator light came on. Had to put in about 650ml. My mechanic said that some just burn oil if they are rode hard. Hmmmm. I thought perhaps the dealer that did my first break in oil change at the 700 miles didn't fill it all the way.

So at the end of last season changed it and checked it, was on the high level on the dipstick - all topped up. Checked it this morning (after 1500 miles so far this season) and poof, it was down about 700 ml. I haven't really rode it hard at all this season. A few times, I pinned it and held if for maybe a minute. Other times a bit of hard riding.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated? What action should I take?

I have not yet read about any stock apex's using oil.

Have you had it on its side or could it have a leak

Ok may be some dumb questions but are you checking oil level after engine has been run? (warmed up for 10-15 minutes then shut down for 10 sec-spec per manual). Also checking on a level surface and making sure not to screw in dipstick.

If you say yes to these three ?'s and if I am reading your post right both times oil was shown to be low it was not rechecked after the first real ride after the change. So the first time it was low after some miles it could have been on the low side to begin with and could have burned enough (mine will burn a bit throughout the season) to have the light come on. Second time same deal you checked it after the first real ride and found it low. So I would say it was not run quite enough to circulate oil after the change and a bit more needed to be added to bring it up on the dipstick.

Action would be to re-check after some miles and then evaluate.

Check to make sure your air box is tight. Do you ride where there is a possibility of dirt or dust? The air filters on these things do not protect from fine dust. Only for larger objects as theoretically there should be no dirt.

you need to to get yamaha ring free dump 16oz in a full tank of gas go burn it up and when done change oil and filter and start using ring free about 2oz in every tank after that and see if it is still using oil.
