I recently upgraded from my 03 RX-1 to an 06 Apex ER. I was wondering if the same oil burning issue happens with the Apex as it did with my RX1? I was adding about 500ml for every 1000km.

Thx

Depends on many things I would say, but if burning oil was a common issue on the RX's I would say it's not common on the Apex's. My 06' RTX wouldn't drop a lick in 2000-2500 miles. Before each trip I would check the oil level and it was never down from the previous check. Just don't overfill or tip the sled on it's side (left) and you should be fine. Of coarse using the recomended oil type will likely help the situation as well. Please do not ask what type of oil to use as it has been covered 455,010,012 times and is probably the most beat horse on the forum. If you are unsure just use the Yamalube full sin if broken in it's newer and should be available. Can't go wrong with OEM recomendation. I never had any issues with it.

If/when the sled tips to the left side, and it has to be a pretty severe tip, oil will drain into the airbox through the breather tube. When I say severe I mean on the side pannel. It just the way it is, you could probably redesign the hose and route it upward so that it would reduce the chance of this happening. If you don't jump or play around in the power, which would increase the chance of you tipping I wouldn't even worry about it as it's a non issue. When you open the air box there will be some oil residue in the box, just wipe it out and clean the filter with some degreaser, a small amount is normal.

mine seems to use oil at 1800miles. Down to bottom of XXX marks everytime after rideing for the weekend. I never beat it being a 60year old. I couldn't beat it if I wanted. I'd kill myself.:) I thought I broke it in o.k. as well. Tried to vary the engine speeds I think. What ever the book said to do I did it.
I notice oil in the filter box while changing filter, etc.

What brand/type oil?

Yama Lube 0-30 then Mobil 1 0-30 at 1200miles. Maybe it's like the cold level antifreeze jug. No matter what I've added it always settles and stays on the bottom below the line on the jug. But I'm afraid to let it go below the line with the oil..so I keep adding a pint too get it up int the middle of the xxx's

Did your air box have quite a bit of oil in it? Just wondering if it's blowing into the airbox, although there is a drain hose it will leave a fair amount in the box. If your down to the XXX you must be loosing it somewere. huh, as always evert motor is a little different.

I don't know what a fair amount would be but it there is signs of oil in there.. Were does it drain too? I read a post last year on reasons why it blows into the air box. I'll have to find it again.
I'm going too keep an eye on it and find out how many miles it takes to get it down.
Up her in Northern NH there is lot's of cold weather so I wonder if I'm loseing it during warm ups over time.

If you are just putting around with it, maybe you have carboned things up a bit. Might want to consider giving it a Seafoam or RingFree shock treatment. If your oil turns black in 50 miles or so as you shock it, you got it carboned up, which will cause oil consumption.

Or using greater than 87 octane fuel will carbon things up too.

I have used Ring Free as a steady additive for about a year. Also I can't see building up carbon as I do run it fast alot. Between me and you I'm always brakeing the speed limit. I just don't jump moguls. :)
