look in the faq section, lots of info.
By memory here goes.
1) Run the engine till warm. Drain block and oil tank.
2) Remove air box
3) Remove battery
4) Remove battery box, and computer from front of battery box. Just lay computer towards front of sled.
5) When you remove the battery box try and remember the way it came out because it is routed through some wires.
6) Remove the oil filter. Tip... jam some paper towels below the oil filter or you will get oil everywhere.
7) Replace everything in the reverse order.
8) Put two quarts of oil into the oil tank. DONT ADD TO THE BLOCK
9) Run the engine for about 10 mins.
10) Top up oil tank to full line.
Hope I haven't forgotten anything.
It normally take about 3/4 or an hour.
Good luck

Ok - I've always wondered why you don't add any oil to the block when re-filling. What could happen?
Not sure why ???? I do it the way the book says and it says to add to the oil tank.

Im pretty sure its because if you add oil to the engine you can get air in the line between the engine and tank. Same reason you are not supposed to just put the entire amount of needed oil in the tank. You put some oil in the tank, run the engine, and then top it off.. I think it all has to do with air in the lines... correct me if im wrong...

Simple reason you put the oil in the tank. It's a dry sump engine. The oil is stored in the tank and that is why you check it just after you have operated the engine to temperature. If you add oil to the engine or to the tank to top off when cold you will end up with TOO much oil.

No one mentioned how to drain the oil, specifically, the access to the drain plug.

1. Remove belly pan
2. Remove drain bolt - very tricky - usually too tight and need an allen wrench with a cheater - Don't loose the seal.
3. Drain oil
4. Remove Tank cap - under oil tank level sensor wire connector.
5. Remove drain plug on tank.
6. Drain Tank
7. Reinstall Engine drain bolt with seal
8. Remove screen in Tank Line connection - Don't loose o-ring forget O-rung
9. Clean Screen
10. Reinstall screen - Don't forget O-ring
11. Reinstall Tank Drain
12. Fill oil system via oil Tank Fill Opening

Change the oil filter the first time because you are breaking in engine, but after that only necessary every second time. These oil filters don't hold much old oil, so if you drain from bottom, and suck out as much as possible from the tank, fill back up with new, run for 10 min to mix new with old, your pretty good to store for the summer.
An oil filter is good for more than 1500 miles. The oil filter on this sled is as big as my maxima and it's good for 4000 miles at least.

Just curious, has anyone ever tried an oil extractor pump to drain oil? These are used on cars and suck the oil out tru the dipstick.

I just talked to a Yamaha Rep on the telephone and he said to add 1 quart to the engine, Via the engine oil cap and then add the rest to the oil tank. He said that by doing this, the engine will have enough oil to start without wear..
Now I am really confused.. Some say add to the engine, some say not to.. What the facts here...

It does say in the manual to add .5 liter to the engine via the valve cover and it does make sense seeing how you drain oil from the engine via the drain plug.
