Hey guys thinking about changing my own oil had dealers do it for the 500 mile. I was studying the apex manual and have a question I found the drain for the oil reservoir the one for the oil pan, filter but I'm confused on what the manual calls the cylinder head cap. Also do you use the Yamaha oil or is there something better local dealer wants 10 50 per quart. manual states 0w 30. sorry for the silly questions I'm not a mechanic but figured i would take some of this on. Thanks

The cylinder head cap is the black cap that's about 1 inch in diameter. It's on the far right (I think) of the valve cover (top of the motor). As for Oil, well that's a subject that is as old as oil itself. Simple answer, just run the Yamaha stuff, complicated answer, do a search and prepare to age a year or two before your done reading. I would go either Yamaha or Amsoil.

that helps I would guess ya remove it to give adequate ventilation for the engine to drain ? lol OK I will just use the Yamaha stuff as i wanted to get this done in the next few days thanks i appreciate it ;)!

did you change filter?
No i had it changed last year on the 500 mark thought season was over but a random storm dumped a bunch more snow so rode another 200 miles. that's all that was on the filter.

oil

when you do change filter that's when it takes more time, when doing
take your time and have patients.

"Take your time and have 'patients'"...I guess you've now become a doctor? LOL

Patience is a virtue!

yea i can see that taking more time i got in and looked at it probably should have just changed it why i was there but oil is changed, chain tightened and antifreeze changed ,suspension all greased. ;)!
