alrighty i've always wondered if the low oil level sensor actually works on these sleds. so i took the dipstick out and started the sled with the dipstick hooked up just dangling on the side of the oil tank. the slad ran for a minute before i shut it off with no codes or lights. i'm goin to try this on another sled tomorow, but this has me thinking i have a bad dipstick or just dont know how the system works on these yamaha's. anyone else do this and find the same thing?

I beleive its tied into the oil pressure sensor instead of the dipstick.... the the beauty of a dry sump... it will continue to run as long as it has enough oil to maintain a certain pressure... I've run my sleds the same way and no codes either.
this is why if you role sled over or get an air bubble into the system it will thro a code 30... oil pressure sensor looses pressure.

Actually the oil tank is a temp sensor, if it detects the change in temp when bath in oil vs not bathed in oil (ie its low) it will trigger the light.
Mine came on when my sled would burn oil and it would get down to the need to add oil part of the dipstick.
Maybe if you try just resting the dipstick plugged in on the oil tank port and letting the sled get fully warm (oil tank should be HOT to touch), then pull the dipstick and let it dangle while the machine is still running you should get the light.
I think there is some sort of calibration when the key is turned on that if you have it hanging without the key on then turn it on it may calibrate to the air. I'm not sure.
